The Planner II in Design Build will be responsible for Assembly Planning on new construction projects at Vancouver Shipyards. Under the direction of the Supervisor, Design Build, the Assembly Planner participates in all phases of new construction design projects from a Production Planning/Production Engineering perspective to develop Production plans for the specific ship products. This involves creating detailed Assembly Plans and installation sequences to support production, incorporating productivity efficiencies in the process.Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.What you’ll do:Plans and performs analysis in support of program build strategy development including: fabrication and assembly processes, interim product definition, and supports development of ship construction plans & schedules.Plans and performs design for production (DFP) development, standards development, and training material development. Performs design for production studies and material/process analysis for new ship construction.Plans and performs production process analysis to develop, implement, and refine new and existing production processes.Works with production and area management to sequence and prioritize manufacturing, assembly and installation activities.Liaises with various stakeholders within production and participates in production team meetings providing feedback and information.Implements change planning requests and coordinates changes with engineering, and detail planning.Performs additional duties as assigned.What you’ll bring:Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma or Technical certification in Trades (Steel) or Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.3-5 years of experience in planning, ship design, shipbuilding or related trade experience in steel in the manufacturing industry.Understanding of shipbuilding operations with a detailed understanding of the relationship between procurement, design, production and test operations. Understanding of Material Requirements Planning principles.Knowledge of manufacturing engineering principles, product structures and bills of material.Technical skills with ability to read and interpret blueprints or drawings.Knowledge of document control systems and databases.Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and planning systems (Primavera and MS Project preferred).Working knowledge of CAD software suite and document control systems and databases (Cadmatic and AutoCAD preferred).Ability to work well independently with limited direction and in a team environment.Communication and interpersonal skills to explain rules and procedures clearly.Time management skills and ability to work on several issues simultaneously.Problem-solving and critical thinking skills to improve production processes.Attention to details while keeping big-picture goals in mind.Why you’ll love working here. In addition to an annual bonus and pension plan matching, this role provides you with a very competitive salary in line with the successful candidate’s experience. We also provide the best-in-class health and wellness benefits package for this position, including things such as extended health care (. paramedical services for massage therapy, speech therapy, mental health coverage, physiotherapy, and more), dental care, vision care, life insurance, medical leave coverage, parental leave coverage, $500 personal spending account, and an Employee Family Assistance Program (EFAP). Free on-site gym.Parking is included and to assist those that are using transit, we operate a complimentary shuttle bus Monday through Friday with various pick up and drop off points around North Vancouver. The estimated salary for this position is $84,600 - $103,400. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
