Title: Junior Data EngineerReports to: Director, Business Intelligence and Data ManagementPosition Summary:The Business Intelligence and Data Management team is seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Junior Data Engineer to support the development of CAPREIT’s enterprise data repository and help build the foundation for future data integration and analytics capabilities. This role is central to transforming organizational data from an untapped resource into a strategic asset that drives competitive advantage.You will work with modern cloud technologies, collaborate with data consumers across the business, and contribute to building a scalable, reliable data ecosystem that supports self‑serve analytics and enterprise reporting.Responsibilities:Data Engineering & Pipeline DevelopmentBuild data solutions using Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Synapse, Microsoft Fabric, and Power PlatformDesign and develop data pipelines to ingest, transform, and integrate data from a wide range of internal and external sourcesImplement data quality monitoring and validation processes to ensure accuracy, reliability, and consistencyData Architecture & OptimizationSupport the development and maintenance of CAPREIT’s enterprise data repository and lakehouse environmentPerform database tuning, application tuning, and performance monitoring to optimize data workflowsMaintain documentation, standards, and best practices for data engineering processesAnalytics & Business SupportWork with data consumers to design and implement data solutions that enable analysis and deliver investment‑grade dataRun ad‑hoc SQL queries, interpret results with business context, and communicate insights to stakeholdersSupport Power BI/Fabric datasets and reporting needs as requiredCollaboration & Data GovernanceBuild strong working relationships across the organization to promote data as a product and support the establishment of a single source of truthContribute to data governance, metadata management, and data stewardship initiativesQualifications:RequiredUndergraduate degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field1+ years of experience in a business intelligence, data engineering, or related technical roleStrong experience with the Microsoft Azure Data Stack (Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse, Purview, SQL Server, Data Lake, Advanced understanding of SQL, including complex queries, joins, stored procedures, and viewsProficiency in Python and Spark (expert‑level preferred)Preferred / Nice to HaveExperience with Microsoft Fabric services (Fabric Data Factory, notebooks, pipelines)Familiarity with CI/CD practices and Azure DevOpsExperience supporting Power BI/Fabric datasets and ad‑hoc reportingCertifications such as DP‑700 Fabric Data Engineer Associate or AZ‑900 Azure FundamentalsWhat’s in it for you?At CAPREIT, we reward all permanent full-time employees:Competitive Base Salary between $70,000 - $90,000Paid VacationFlexible Health, Dental & Vision Benefits Employee Savings PlanEmployee & Family Assistance PlanLearning & Professional Development
