What you'll do

Receive and evaluate requisitions for urgency for radiographic examinations and processes by performing duties such as verifying requisitions comply with departmental standards with regard to information supplied, entering patient information into the radiology information system and image processing systems as required, and following up on missing and/or incomplete information by returning requisitions to the appropriate personnel or contacting the referring unit. Perform other associated clerical duties in order to complete patient examination when required. Arrange for the transportation of patients to other departments and/or services as necessary according to departmental procedure. Prepare patient for examination by methods such as ensuring the patient is appropriately gowned, explaining procedure and answering patient and parent questions with regard to the procedure where possible, assisting or transferring the patient to the examination table or immobilization device and ensuring patient safety and comfort during the process. Perform requested examination observing departmental standards and routines by methods such as verifying identity of patient and examination details prior to start of procedure, and observing correct use of radiographic equipment and radiation protection practices during the imaging procedure. Process images, checks images for technical and diagnostic quality and stores images using appropriate equipment. Prepare contrast agents required for examinations by methods such as filling syringes, mixing barium solutions and conducting similar duties as required. Prepare tray set-up for procedures by methods such as selecting required stock items and direct purchase items, opening wrappings, maintaining sterility of contents, disposing of items after the procedure according to hospital policy and cleaning instruments for return to medical device reprocessing. Assist the radiologist in fluoroscopic procedures by methods such as preparing the patient and family, positioning the patient, verifying Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is in place, opening sterile supplies and ensuring patient comfort. Perform radiographic examinations utilizing the appropriate immobilization equipment devices including octostop, chest chair, etc. as required. Place lead protection over gonadal area (including examinations of the pelvis) on all patients during radiographic procedures as per the procedural guidelines. Perform forensic radiography examinations as directed.

What you bring

Qualifications

Certification with the CAMRT. Two (2) years recent pediatric experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification - Basic Life Support (BCLS) level.

You will also have

Demonstrated knowledge of the standards of practice and guidelines for Medical Imaging practitioners established by the CAMRT and/or other relevant national professional associations. Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based practice related to designated modalities. Demonstrated knowledge of organization policies, procedures and standards of care. Demonstrated knowledge and practice of safe work procedures with radiology equipment. Demonstrated knowledge of research process and methodology. Demonstrated knowledge of PACS/Radiology Information Systems, digital imaging, image archiving and retrieval. Demonstrated ability to communicate (orally and in writing) and relate effectively with patients and their families, coworkers, physicians, other health care staff and staff of external agencies. Demonstrated ability to deal with and/or guide others in resolution of conflict issues. Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others. Demonstrated ability to plan and establish workload priorities in collaboration with others. Demonstrated ability in CPR techniques. Demonstrated computer skills with current computer applications. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position. Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019). Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
