Position SummaryReporting to the Chair of the School of Health Sciences and Course Instructor, this position will support the safe and efficient operations of OTA clinical labs. Accountabilities will include on site student support, teaching support, and implementation and maintenance of laboratory procedures. ResponsibilitiesUnder the direction of the Course Instructor, the Lab Technician is responsible for:Consulting with the course instructor and attending all preparatory laboratory meetings  Ensuring student awareness of course objectives, approach, and evaluation techniquesReinforcing, demonstrating, assisting and supporting pre-learned principles and their application to skills and proceduresProviding a learning environment that makes effective use of laboratory equipmentSupporting and maintaining lab safety, cleanliness and organizationProviding observation and evaluating student skills and progress using developed guidelines and criteriaReporting on student progress/achievement to the Course DirectorMaintaining records of attendanceEnsuring an equitable and accessible learning community QualificationsEducation, Qualifications and Other RequirementsMinimum two (2) year diploma in OTA/PTA Membership in CAOT, or OSOT Valid CPR and First Aid certification Must be available a minimum of 6 hours on weekdays during the daytimeExperienceMinimum three (3) years of clinical experience as an OTARegistered OTs are welcome to applyPrevious formal or informal lab technician experience is considered and assetSkillsStrong interpersonal, problem-solving and communication skills (written and verbal) to interact with the college’s multi-cultural/racial/able staff, students and the public.Understanding of and commitment to equity in educationCommitment to a team approach for problem-solving and conflict resolution.Demonstrated ability to provide clarity in guiding/advising others to accurately explain processes and proceduresAbility to organize workload, establish priorities and work with minimal supervision Excellent clinical skills in OTA
