Main Purpose & FunctionThe Truck Driver I position requires the skilled manual work of some variety and complexity including the operation of vehicles (up to 1 ton). The Truck Driver 1 assists with tree planting and stump removal operations on streets and in parks. They drive up to 1-ton trucks with trailers and utilize hand tools to complete their tasks. The duties involve the use of specialized skills including those required for small equipment operations and the work generally requires accuracy and precision. This position will be part of a team removing stumps surrounded by concrete using hand tools. Specific Duties & ResponsibilitiesDrives a light truck or 1-ton to transport materials, tools and equipment and crew members to worksitesTows trailer and required equipmentPerforms all work associated with stump removal and tree planting operationsAssists stump grind operations with hydro-vac unitsOperates hand guided mobile and stationary equipment used in construction and maintenance taskPerforms related work as required QualificationsEducation and Experience:Completion of eighth grade supplemented by related courses where applicable and related experience in one or more areas of skill developmentExperience working within proximity to heavy equipmentExperience working with roadside safety setups Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Thorough knowledge of the rules of safe operation and the precaution to be taken to avoid accidents in driving a light or medium weight truck.Thorough knowledge of the methods, practices and rules of safe operation of tree planting and stump removal equipmentGood knowledge of the standard specifications, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in stump removal, invasive plant management, mobile and stationary maintenance and construction.Good knowledge and experience working with trees and underground utilitiesGood knowledge and experience of the methods, practices and rules of safe operation of hand and power tools used to supress invasive speciesWorking knowledge of the functions of the branch concerned and the established practices in carrying out the work.Ability to exercise considerable independence of judgment and action in the work.Skill in the operation and servicing of construction and maintenance equipment and in the use of tools used in minor repair tasks.Ability to tow trailer and required equipmentAbility to courteously answer questions and deal with the publicAbility to follow directions from a supervisorPreferred training in traffic safety set-upPreferred training in operation of chainsawsClass 5 Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia Drivers License and Record ChecksCandidates must attach the following records and satisfy the City’s driving requirements to be considered for this role:Copy of your five-year ICBC Commercial Driver’s Abstract (N Print) directly from ICBC dated within 14 days of this postingCopy of your five-year ICBC Driver’s Claims History directly from ICBC within 14 days of this postingIf you have less than five years driving experience in BC, a request must be made for out of province/country abstract and claims history Business Unit/Department: Board of Parks & Recreation (1400) Affiliation: CUPE 1004 ParksEmployment Type: Temporary Full Time Position Start Date: February, 2026 Position End Date: April, 2026 Salary Information: Pay Grade GR-320: $36.29 per hourNumber of Vacancies: 4 Application Close: January 30, 2026At the City of Vancouver, we are committed to recruiting a diverse workforce that represents the community we so proudly serve.
