Position Overview

Prica Global Enterprises Inc. (PGE) is looking for an experienced and energetic Senior Project Accountant & Funding Specialist. This position will primarily support all cost controllership and activity tracking pertaining to Projects, while proactively researching and securing government funding and incentives. The successful candidate will actively work with PGE's Design, Engineering and Project Management teams to oversee timely tracking, monitoring and reporting, ensuring the accuracy of all financial and operational metrics relating to project performance. Working closely with the CFO, the successful candidate will play a key role in all project funding activities, including new project financial modeling and underwriting, and playing a lead role in the monthly construction draw process. Concurrently, this individual will proactively research and seek out relevant government grants, tax incentives and all other potential funding sources by building an intimate understanding of our current and future projects, writing compelling proposals, and securing financial support that is aligned with the organization's goals. A deep knowledge of federal and provincial funding and tax incentives, and all reporting and compliance requirements, will be essential for success in the role.

Primary Responsibilities

Reporting to the CFO, the key responsibilities of the Senior Project Accountant & Funding Specialist are:

Project Accounting and Controllership:

  • Primary Accounting support contact for Design, Engineering, Project Management. Oversee transaction workflow and processing, General Ledger accuracy, and Job Cost budget vs. actuals.
  • Lead the coordination of all requisitions, subtrade invoicing, and payments, including management of the construction lender draw process.
  • Ongoing management and optimization of all financial processes that pertain to projects. Includes systems optimization and the development and implementation of enhanced policies and procedures.

Project Financing and Lender Draw Process

  • Work closely with the CFO to complete new construction financing applications, lender reporting and other compliance requirements.
  • Ensure monthly invoicing and project monitoring activities coincide with the monthly construction draw process, while working closely with the project's external cost consultant to facilitate timely funding and vendor payments.

Identifying Government Funding Opportunities:

  • Conduct in-depth internal and external research to identify potential funding sources like government grants (e.g., from agencies like ISED, FedDev Ontario, NRC and NSERC).
  • Stay updated on current funding guidelines, eligibility criteria, and application deadlines.
  • Proactively monitor the eligibility of all PGE activities for SR&ED tax incentives and lead the claims process from end to end.

Proposal Development and Application Management:

  • Collaborate with project teams to develop comprehensive project proposals, including budget breakdowns, project timelines, impact statements, and clear articulation of funding needs.
  • Craft compelling narratives that highlight the project's potential impact and align with the priorities of the funder and other stakeholders including regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure proposals adhere to all necessary formatting and submission requirements.
  • Submit grant applications and required supporting documents on time and accurately.

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Ensure project activities align with guidelines and reporting requirements for all stakeholders.
  • Prepare regular progress reports to funders detailing project milestones and financial expenditures

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics or Accounting
  • 3+ years of experience in construction or related industry
  • Strong systems aptitude (Yardi experience considered a significant asset)
  • Progressive experience that indicates strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to influence without specific authority
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Strong ability to think creatively, challenge the status quo, deal with ambiguity
  • History of strong personal performance and value add to the business
  • Demonstrated success working with internal/ external stakeholders
  • Strong financial acumen and financial skills, including quantitative problem solving
  • Strong understanding of funding landscape including federal and provincial grant programs
  • Research skills capable of identifying funding opportunities and assessing feasibility
  • Project management skills including a thorough understanding of project planning, budgeting, and monitoring to ensure successful project execution
