Job DescriptionAccountabilities:Checks unverified laboratory results for accuracy prior to verification; investigates unexpected abnormal and/or spurious results according to laboratory policies, processes and/or proceduresPerforms operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory analyzers and equipmentMonitors quality control results and responds appropriately to discordant resultsEnsures specimen collection, integrity, transport and storage is appropriate for sample processing and analysisRefers discordant findings to appropriate personnel for further follow-upAssists at bone marrow collections; check specimen for acceptability; processes in-house and send-out test requestsMonitors temperature and expiry dates of blood and blood component products to ensure products are acceptable for transfusion; discards outdated or compromised products as requiredChecks operating room list to ensure blood products are available for required surgeriesIssues blood and blood component productsActively participates in the laboratory quality management system and process improvementsPerforms other procedures and duties as assignedQualificationsMedical Laboratory Technologist with CSMLS certification Current registration with CMLTO in good standingMinimum two years recent transfusion medicine experience in a hospital laboratory setting or must demonstrate successful completion of all relevant education within the past two yearsDemonstrated ability to work under pressure and maintain high level of productivity, competence and professionalismAble to evaluate and analyze information to facilitate continuous improvement of the laboratory process in the interest of quality patient careStrong multi-tasking, critical thinking and problem-solving skillsExcellent organizational and communication skillsProven ability to be a team player; strong interpersonal skillsKnowledge of Meditech, Paradigm and Microsoft Office computer system an assetMust demonstrate Osler's Values of Respect, Excellence, Service, Compassion, Innovation and CollaborationExcellent attendance, punctuality and work ethicMay be required to travel between and work at all Osler sitesAdditional InformationHours: Days/Evenings/Nights, including weekends and statutory holidays (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)SALARY: Minimum: $36.85 per hour Maximum: $50.27 per hourPlease note this non-union position will become part of the OPSEU bargaining unit.#LI-FN1 #TPTOsler values inclusivity and diversity in the workplace.
