ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY Black & McDonald is currently seeking an experienced Sheet Metal Fabricator to build high-quality metal components for our clients. As a Sheet metal fabricator, you will be responsible for reading and interpreting engineering blueprints, fabricating metal components or structures, and performing quality checks on finished products. You may also be required to set up fabricating machines and design custom templates. The position is located in Saskatoon, SK and will report directly to the Supervisor. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate a strong work ethic, willingness to learn, a great attitude, and a genuine passion for the trade. Sheetmetal Fabricators are required to be skilled in all manner of duct construction methods; comfortable with the use of common industry specific hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic tools; and adept at reading and interpreting technical literature. Day to day work may sometimes require long hours and lifting heavy loads. B&M is committed continuous improvement and will endeavor to provide all training necessary to maintain the health and safety of our staff and support career development wherever possible. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Reading and interpreting engineering blueprints. Constructing base templates if necessary. Measuring and marking out cutting and bending lines. Setting up metalwork machinery including rollers, drill presses, flame cutters, brakes, and shears. Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements. Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements) Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded. Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces. Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead) Performing quality checks on completed products. Conforming with state and company safety regulations. Completing job reports. Competency Requirements Communicates Effectively Continuous Learning Customer Focus Problem Solving and Innovation Values and Respects Others Education Requirements High school diploma or equivalent. Registered apprentice or Red seal journey person ticket. Work Experience & Skill Requirements Relevant Industry Experience AWS certification and advanced welding experience. Proficiency with metal fabrication tools including shears, rollers, flame cutters, and drill presses. Clean Class 5 SK Driver’s License and abstract Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to always maintain a professional demeanor with fellow employees, customers, and stakeholders. Strong problem-solving skills.
