As our growth creates new career opportunities, likely there is the right one for youMissionTerus Construction, a division of Colas Western Canada Inc., is seeking a qualified Heavy Duty Plant Mechanic to join our team in Prince George, BC.Main ResponsibilitiesComplete work as directed by the Plants and Facility Manager.Perform a variety of tasks involving manual labor in heavy/highway construction and construction material plants.Maintain wide range of equipment and troubleshoot malfunction from a mechanical, electric and electronic standpoint.Operates several types of construction equipment, in order to evaluate condition.Be familiar with asphalt, concrete, and crushing plant operation, troubleshooting, and repair.Maintain a clean job site: pick up all tools and equipment and secure job site each day in order to eliminate potential hazards.Load and unload trucks and haul and hoist materials.Operates metal cutting, machining, and welding (oxyacetylene, electric, and arc welding) equipment in the repair of mechanical equipment and fabrication of tools, jigs, and fixtures. Welds, brazes, solders, and cuts steel, copper, cast aluminum, cast iron, stainless steel, and other metals and alloys and does emergency on-site or schedules shop repair and metal work.Designs, fashions, and forges new tools, iron work, and metal parts; modifies existing equipment for special purposes. Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.  Attend Safety Meetings and meet training goals for job role and advancementRequirements/QualificationsExperience working within a shop and field environmentMinimum five (5) years experience working as a mechanic on construction equipment and plantsMinimum three (3) years of field experienceRed Seal Certification as mechanic or millwright acceptableCan work independently with minimal supervisionExcellent planning and organizational skillsExcellent verbal communication skillsGood computer skills in troubleshooting equipment softwareMust be a strong team player, with strong customer service orientationWorking ConditionsWilling to work in field and in all weather conditionsWilling to work overtime (may include weekends) during the busy season (April to October) and on call as necessaryWilling to work away from home for 50-60% of the timeAbility to utilize hands and fingers in order to perform repair and maintenance task on construction equipmentAbility to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands throughout the workday should the need ariseAbility to lift and carry 50lbAbility to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch should the need ariseAbility to see clearly or with assistance via necessary correctionThe noise level on the shop floor and around equipment may be loudReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functionsThis is a safety sensitive position; selected candidate must pass drug and alcohol testing as requiredCompensation DataThis is a unionized position with an anticipated wage of $48.09 CAD per hour.
