Unit SummaryThe Hamilton General Drugstore is an accredited retail pharmacy located in the main lobby of the Hamilton General Hospital. The drugstore workload resembles that of a fast-paced community pharmacy with an emphasis on a high level of service including patient counseling and other professional services, extemporaneous compounding, investigational drug dispensing and specialty home health sales. Position SummaryThe Pharmacy Technician's primary function in the hospital retail setting is to accurately process prescriptions, including all technical aspects such as computer entry, adjudication, product preparation, dispensing and final product checking/ verification. The Pharmacy Technician works in a collaborative model with pharmacists to enable the pharmacist to focus on professional service activities. In addition, on a rotational basis, the Pharmacy Technician will conduct other technical functions in the pharmacy such as front shop maintenance, cash reconciliation and deposit, inventory maintenance and adjustments. The Pharmacy Technician will be expected to effectively communicate with patients regarding their prescription needsSchedule Work HoursThe Pharmacy Technician will be working 7.5 hour shifts to support the Pharmacy's hours of operation based on present and future business requirements as well as rotation shifts in other existing and future retail pharmacies operated by HHS as required.Qualifications1. Registered with Ontario College of Pharmacists 2. Minimum 2 years prior retail pharmacy experience 3. Demonstrated retail pharmacy information system computer skills 4. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication, teamwork, problem-solving skills, organizational skills 5. Demonstrated commitment to professional development including knowledge related to professional services 6. Hospital pharmacy experience an asset Candidates must have completed the following requirements related to registration with the Ontario College of Pharmacists prior to the application to this posting.
