Key Responsibilities:Communicates with Deaf students in ASL to determine their preference and expectations around the interpreting service.Schedules and assigns hours for ASL – English interpreters into College classes and events at the 5 GTA Colleges, and rescheduling to accommodate course/student changes and service provider availability.Schedules and assigns hours to ASL – English interpreters for Deaf staff and faculty.Assigns hours to staff and contract interpreters on an intermittent basis as required. Maintains tracking system of ongoing and intermittent interpreting services for statistical reports. Determines efficient and effective uses of ASL interpreter resources to maximize coverage within limited Ministry funds.Analyses requirements and determines which students receive service and in what sequence to comply with Ontario Human Rights Legislation.Receives remote interpreting requests, collates, and analyzes each request closely to understand student specific needs and determine technical resources available to meet demand in a timely manner.Pivots in-person requests to remote based on availability of limited interpreting resources, reviews and evaluates remote capabilities in conjunction with course requirements and outcomes.Creates and maintains remote system detailing all prevalent information on various learning management systems used by each college, video platform access, accessibility requirements, student user-availability and technical capabilities. Ensures the needs of the student is met with the correct interpreter taking into consideration several variables; proven qualifications, experience in the course material, professional etiquette, student continuity, student preference, interpreter availability and interpreter health and safety concerns.Retrieves and verifies invoices submitted for payment on a weekly basis within a very short time frame.Recruits, screens, orients, mentors and supervises ASL-English interpreters. Creates, organizes and facilitates Professional Development Workshops for ASL – English Interpreters.Generates and analyzes statistical reports, creates and updates resource documents and communication pieces for faculty, students and service providers.Other duties as assigned. Educational andExperience Requirements:Three-year diploma/degree or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution in Office Administration, Social Sciences or Community Services. Completion of American Sign Language certificate or equivalent. Minimum of three years’ demonstrated experience in scheduling using a database; statistical reporting and analysis using reports produced by relational databases ( Banner and Clock Work). Experience overseeing, recruiting, mentoring and training employees and fluency in ASL.Understanding of academic accommodations for students with disabilities involving interpreters. Experience in analyzing skill sets required by users and matching skills of part-time service providers.Experience in working with multiple priorities and requests under time constraints.Skills and Attributes: Intermediate to advanced skill in Excel, including the use of macros and pivot tables. Knowledge of AODA legislation and Universal Design for Learning Principles; working knowledge of CASLI policies and guidelines.Knowledge of Deaf culture and community impacts, issues, and trends.Knowledge of interpreting community best practices, trends, and language skill set.Sound analytic judgement, tactical and resource planning, and negotiation skills to identify problems, determine possible solutions, and select appropriate actions.Excellent time and project management, multitasking, and organizational skills; ability to complete tasks and meet deadlines, while working with competing priorities and interruptions.Demonstrated communication, collaboration, teamwork and interpersonal skills at a professional level.Demonstrated commitment to uphold the College’s priorities on diversity and equity.
