General Counsel, Alberta iGaming Corporation
4 days ago
With the introduction and passage of Bill 48, the iGaming Alberta Act, the province has established the legal framework for a competitive, innovative, and socially responsible digital gaming ecosystem. The launch of Alberta’s private, regulated iGaming will permit private iGaming operators to participate in a controlled iGaming environment. A newly created Crown corporation, the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC), will be responsible for conducting and managing the market as well as contracting with private iGaming operators. By establishing the organizational structure and setting key provisions and requirements, the iGaming Alberta Act positions Alberta to create an open, commercial, and regulated iGaming market, and to become a global leader in the iGaming industry. The creation of AiGC presents a unique opportunity for an experienced legal and governance expert to establish and lead the legal guidance and risk management support for a new Crown corporation at a pivotal moment in the province’s gaming industry. This includes advising on legislative interpretation, contract review, regulatory obligations, and legal risk mitigation. As a founding member of the Executive Team, the AiGC General Counsel is responsible for the development and oversight of ethics and conduct policies, including the Code of Conduct, Whistleblower Protection, Confidence Line, and Conflicts of Interest. The role also ensures that frameworks for records retention, corporate and consumer privacy, and access are properly embedded in organizational policies and practices and provides legal support for Board governance in collaboration with the CEO’s office. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, while interacting with and providing support to the Board of Directors, the General Counsel will be responsible for any litigation and case management and supporting decisions/recommendations related to dispute resolution and compliance management along with contract negotiation and interpretation. The General Counsel will be responsible for tracking industry related legal trends and regulatory decisions that could impact operations. The ideal candidate must possess a law degree and maintain membership in good standing with a Canadian law society. They will bring a minimum of 7 years of legal advisory experience, ideally within public sector or highly regulated industries. The successful candidate will be a highly collaborative leader of high-performing teams, with deep expertise in administrative law, privacy, contract law, and regulatory compliance, along with proven experience supporting governance processes and fostering cross-functional collaboration. This individual will be a strategic legal advisor who can navigate complex regulatory environments while enabling AiGC objectives. Knowledge of Gaming industry law, both nationally and within Alberta, would be an asset. To fill this position, Alberta iGaming Corporation has partnered with leadership advisory firm Odgers. Applications are encouraged immediately, and should be submitted online, no later than January 30, 2026. We would like to thank all applicants but regret that we are only able to personally contact those individuals whose backgrounds best match the requirements for the role.
