Purpose: FE is currently seeking Intermediate and Senior Associates (Transportation/ Traffic Engineers/ Planners) to join our Transportation and Safety team, located in Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, and Vancouver offices. The successful candidate will join a growing leading practice transportation/ traffic safety team, working on multi-modal transportation projects Job Summary: Reporting to the Practice Lead (or Vice President), Transportation and Safety Engineering, the successful candidate will work in a hybrid environment with access to an office in Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, and Vancouver. Working on numerous projects for respected public and private clients, the Associate will be an integral part of the Transportation team to consult with clients, perform examinations, complete documentation reviews, and conduct various safety, planning and engineering analyses, including preparing engineering reports. The Associate will be responsible for working on a wide range of transportation planning, traffic engineering and multi-disciplinary assignments for both private and public sector clients including, multi-modal transportation master plans (TMPs), active transportation (AT) projects, environmental assessments (EAs), parking studies, transportation demand management (TDM), traffic operation studies, traffic safety studies, and microsimulation and design assessments. Role responsibilities will include (but are not limited to): Undertake and manage transportation planning and traffic engineering studies Complete traffic modelling and analysis with applicable design software (Synchro, VISSIM, VISUM, Aimsun, etc.). Act as Project Manager and provide overall work management and technical performance on projects to ensure timelines and targets are being met Actively participates in the preparation of proposals and writing reports Perform in-depth safety investigations for post-collisions/ incidents with a proactive safety or vision zero approach for the potential improvement of existing or future facilities Oversee and assist in the preparation of technical drawings and simulations, including field measurements, sketches, technical calculations and other data Conduct and lead field studies and site examinations for collision/ incident investigations, including inventories, traffic and parking counts, etc Review plans and specifications to determine whether they meet relevant transportation regulations, guidelines, standards, policies and practices Work toward technical independence, with a goal of providing expert testimony in court Provide mentorship, guidance, quality control, support and oversight of junior and intermediate staff to complete various traffic engineering and transportation planning tasks Attends and participates at client, stakeholders, and public meetings Effectively communicate investigation and analysis findings Identify and participate in the acquisition of new clients and work (research and liaise with clients, network within the industry) Establishes and maintains good working relationships and communication with clients, department managers, internal and external leads Other duties as assigned Requirements: University Degree in Transportation Engineering/ Civil Engineering Eng. License from the Professional Engineers of Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, or elsewhere in Canada + years of relevant experience (or a post-graduate degree) in transportation/ traffic engineering and planning services in the consulting sector Thorough knowledge of municipal and provincial review processes, guidelines, and standards Demonstrated knowledge of prevailing transportation guidelines, standards and regulations including, but not limited to, the Ontario Traffic Manuals (OTM), Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, Geometric Design Guide for Canadian Roads, Highway Traffic Act (HTA), and other Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) and Ministry of Transportation publications Demonstrated working knowledge of road safety programs including, but not limited to, network screening, safety reviews or audits and collision modification factors Demonstrated knowledge of roadway design, maintenance, operations, transportation planning process or policy development Knowledge of roadway operations, regular maintenance and winter maintenance, including policies, standards, best practices and treatment materials will be considered an asset Project coordination and management experience Experience in the legal or litigation field would be an asset Demonstrated experience in report and proposal writing Experience in business development and preparation/ leading of proposals Experience with GIS (ArcGIS) and using Auto Cad and Auto Turn software Ability to manage technical analysis, using tools such as Synchro/ Simtraffic Experience using other transportation software and methods ( HCS, CCG, VISSIM, VISUM EMME, Aimsun, Vistro) Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership abilities Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team Expected to work from the Forensic Engineering office to times per month.
