Strong interpersonal and communication skills are vital for fostering collaboration, managing high-stress situations, and de-escalating conflicts, creating a positive and welcoming environments for all. You will implement trauma-informed practices, integrating trauma awareness at all levels of care. Resilience, stress management, and conflict-resolution skills are essential. Fluency in multiple languages and public speaking experience are assets. Strong communication, relationship-building, influence, conflict resolution, training in harms reduction and critical thinking are crucial. Experience working with individuals suffering from addictions, mental health disorders, or the unhoused is highly valued. You must maintain mental concentration and quickly adapt strategies in emergencies. Training in law enforcement, security, or criminal justice is required, preferably with experience or knowledge of working with Indigenous people and diverse backgrounds. We are dedicated to fostering strong relationships with Indigenous peoples and deeply respect your knowledge and contributions.Description: As a Protective Services Officer II, you will provide security and protective services for all patients, visitors, staff and AHS property including: violence monitoring, prevention and intervention; enforcement of applicable federal, provincial and municipal statutes; asset loss prevention and internal investigations; preparation of court documents and securing evidence; risk assessment and hazard identification; arrests, apprehensions and detentions of persons and first responder to critical events. You will provide support for facility departments on matters of security and safety practices, participates in reviewing and recommending policy, and fosters and maintains positive public relations through relationships with internal and external contacts. Required Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent. Active (or eligible) for appointment as a Community Peace Officer with enforcement duties involving the public, as identified by the Province of Alberta/Solicitor General. Successful completion of Alberta Health Services or Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Community Peace Officer Induction Training Program (6 weeks program). Valid Class 5 (non-GDL) Driver's Licence. Valid Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation ( completed under 4:45 minute, within 6 months prior to commencing employment.Additional Required Qualifications: Alberta Class 5 operator’s license, or a provincial equivalent, with no more than four demerits and no charges or pending suspensions. You must be eligible for appointment as a Community Peace Officer with enforcement duties involving the public. Past criminal records which have not received a pardon, current and past investigations by previous employers, past misconduct as a Peace Officer, and other issues could result in you not being eligible for appointment. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.Preferred Qualifications: A minimum two years of related work experience OR a related degree or diploma. Experience in uniformed public servant roles or emergency services (military, forestry, park ranger, corrections, peace officer). CPI Non-violent Crisis Intervention training and Pressure Point Control Tactic Certificates are also assets. Experience within a healthcare setting. Current First Aid and CPR Level C – AED certification.
