General Maintenance Helper

The General Maintenance Helper is located in Pickering, Ontario and typically reports directly to the Procurement Director. The General Maintenance Helper will be responsible for shipping, receiving, storing and delivering a wide variety of construction related materials.  This individual will be required to record and track movement of all materials as well as perform general maintenance, cleaning for the warehouse and office, as well as other facility related activities as required. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Determine method of shipment and arrange shipping; prepare bills of lading, customs forms, invoices and other shipping documents manually or by computer Assemble containers and crates, record contents manually or in computer system, pack goods to be shipped and affix identifying information and shipping instructions Loading and unloading of goods from trucks or other conveyances Inspect and verify incoming goods against invoices or other documents, record shortages and reject damaged goods Unpack, code and route goods to appropriate storage areas Maintain internal, manual or computerized record-keeping systems Operate forklift, hand truck or other equipment to load, unload, transport and store goodsInterface with suppliers, QA and Project Management to coordinate material requirements and receipt inspectionsAdhere to shipping and receiving policies/proceduresEnsure that all safety rules/regulations are followedEnsure all facilities issues are taken care of and maintained (including but not limited to replacing light bulbs, snow removal, equipment installation, cleaning, general repairs, etc)Erection of safety signageMaintaining of signageGeneral maintenance of door/window closures, door handles and hinges and  other like devices   Relamping   Light maintenance of mechanical/electrical equipment including cleaning and garbage removal.Filter changingPerformance of shift tours including machinery log readings  Start-up and / or shutdown of building equipment and machinery  Water treatment duties for boilers, engines, chillers etc.  Assisting in periodic testing of fire alarms and other life safety systems   Machinery belt inspection and replacement   Communicate relevant information to internal and external stakeholders when requiredUnderstand and comply with project retention policies and standardsPPE Ordering & Restocking of ShelvesAdhere to record retention policies and standards, and comply with filing systemOther duties as required.
