Senior Mechanical Designer / Engineer – Building Systems (MURBs)Location: Waterloo/London Work Model: Full time - In OfficeIndustry: Building Consulting EngineeringProject Focus: Multi-Unit Residential Buildings (MURBs)About the RoleWe are currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer / Engineer with strong experience in Multi-Unit Residential Buildings (MURBs) for a client we've partnered with.Join a growing, collaborative consulting engineering team This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both hands-on technical work and mentoring others, and who wants to play a key role in project delivery and team development.You will be involved in the full lifecycle of mechanical design - from concept through construction - while providing technical leadership and guidance to junior and intermediate staff.Key ResponsibilitiesLead mechanical design for MURB projects, including low-rise, mid-rise, and high-rise residential developmentsPrepare and review mechanical drawings, layouts, and specifications for HVAC, plumbing, sanitary, and fire protection systemsPerform and review HVAC load calculations, ventilation calculations, and equipment sizing in accordance with ASHRAE standardsEnsure all designs comply with Ontario Building Code and applicable mechanical codesCoordinate with architectural, structural, electrical, and civil teams to deliver fully integrated designsMentor and provide technical guidance to junior and intermediate designers/engineersSupport project management activities, including schedules, deliverables, and coordination meetingsParticipate in construction administration, site reviews, and responding to RFIs and shop drawings as requiredQualifications & ExperienceDiploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field8+ years of experience in mechanical design within a building consulting engineering environmentProven experience working on MURBs is requiredStrong knowledge of HVAC systems, hydronic systems, ventilation, plumbing, and mechanical room layoutsSolid understanding of building codes, standards, and permitting processesProficiency in AutoCAD and RevitExperience performing and reviewing load calculations (HAP or similar software preferred)P.Eng designation is an asset (or actively working toward licensure, where applicable)Soft Skills & AttributesStrong communication and collaboration skillsAbility to work independently while supporting a team environmentMentorship mindset with a willingness to develop junior staffDetail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilitiesComfortable managing multiple projects and prioritiesWhat’s OfferedOpportunity to work on high-profile residential developmentsSupportive, collaborative, multidisciplinary environmentClear pathway for continued growth into senior technical or leadership rolesCompetitive compensation and benefits packageLong-term stability with a firm that values experience and retentionIf you are interested and have experience with MURB projects, and enjoy this aspect of consulting - reach out to me with your resume and your project list: Jennifer Ramos, jramos@talentsphere.ca
