Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, the Director provides strategic oversight of the University’s enterprise risk management framework and insurance portfolio, ensuring that institutional decision making is informed and aligned with long term priorities. The role is central to strengthening the University’s capacity to anticipate emerging risks and support effective governance. The Director leads the development and implementation of risk policies, frameworks, and tools that guide senior leaders in identifying, assessing, and monitoring institutional risks. An integral part of the risk management function is to manage the insurance portfolio and all related claims for the university. Working collaboratively with partners across the University, the Director ensures alignment among risk related functions, including Internal Audit, Information Technology Services, Environmental Health & Safety, and the Office of University Counsel.  The Director is a knowledgeable leader in the evolving discipline of enterprise risk management, particularly in relation to emerging risk trends, the integration of risk with institutional strategies, risk appetite frameworks and developing key performance indicators for risk reporting. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional communication skills, political acuity, and the ability to build trust across a large, decentralized institution. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:  Education:  An undergraduate degree in a relevant area of study (e.g. Business, Finance, Law) or an acceptable combination of education and relevant experience. Graduate degree an asset. Canadian Risk Management certification or equivalent is required.  Experience:  Minimum ten (10) years of leadership experience in enterprise risk management function.  Experience in a university setting an asset.  Experience in an organization with scale and complexity, range of stakeholders and complex governance structure that parallels University of Toronto, preferably in the public sector. Demonstrated experience in enterprise risk management, regulatory compliance, legislative frameworks and policy development. Experience with risk identification, reporting, and mitigation strategies that align with the University priorities. Experience in insurance management, lines of insurance coverage. Experience interpreting insurance policies. Change management and project management experience. Demonstrated experience in successfully leading, motivating and managing a diverse team towards the strategic goals of enterprise risk management function. Proven experience in successfully leading complex projects and teams across a variety of different institutional areas. Experience leading teams. Experience supervising staff in a unionized environment is an asset.  Skills: Knowledge of leading-edge enterprise risk management practices and globally-accepted frameworks. Knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements for a large public sector organization. Knowledge of relevant governing legislation for university sector. Ability to assist CLO with establishing a strategic direction and developing priorities and initiatives to support that direction.
