Scope of Position Clearford is seeking several skilled and licensed Water and Wastewater Operators and Operators-in-Training (OIT’s) for several locations in our Hubs across Ontario, in Mount Forest, Wingham, Goderich, Hanover and surrounding areas and regions. As a member of the Operations team the Water/Wastewater Operators and OIT’s contribute to the successful operation and maintenance of Water Treatment, Water Distribution, and Supply sub-systems, as well as other Wastewater Treatment and Wastewater Collection systems operated by Clearford. They will perform essential services to the public and ensure that all applicable legislation, regulations and guidelines are adhered to. What We Offer OIT Rate – $20 to $24 per hour. Operator Rate – $25 to $30 per hour. Overtime Rate – 1.5x regular hourly rate (Calculated Weekly). Statutory Holiday Rate – 2x regular hourly rate, for hours worked on a statutory holiday. Weekly Standby Rate – For working on-call rotation. Company vehicle for business use for eligible candidates, or; Vehicle allowance for those who use a personal vehicle for business use. Key Duties & Responsibilities Perform operational tasks and maintenance (preventative and corrective) duties for assigned facilities, including daily rounds, system monitoring, housekeeping, regulatory sampling, and lab deliveries. Communicate using strong oral and written communication skills to clearly describe operational items to members of the public, clients, government agencies, equipment suppliers, contractors, tradespeople, and internal staff. Drive long distances, including during inclement weather. Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation, regulations, approvals, orders, and guidelines. Adjust, inspect, and evaluate process performance and equipment to optimize efficiency and effectiveness, in accordance with established procedures. Operate, monitor, and repair several facilities and systems including surface/ground water treatment plants, well-based distribution and supply systems, pumping stations, reservoirs, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), various digital and analog instrumentation and control systems, numerous monitoring, reporting and communication systems, pressure tanks, filtration systems, continuous online analyzers, and related appurtenances such as valves and hydrants. Operate, monitor, and repair wastewater treatment plants with varying degrees of complexity (e.g., moving bed biological Reactors (MBBRs), membrane biological reactors (MBRs), rotating biological contactors (RBCs), waterloo bio-filters (WBSs), sequencing batch reactors (SBRs), ultra-filtration membrane filtration (UFMF), reverse osmosis (RO) treatment systems, lagoons, septic systems), using Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems along with less sophisticated control systems, landfill leachate, sewage pump stations, and manholes. Work independently to troubleshoot various types of equipment malfunctions, make necessary repairs using Operations and Maintenance manuals, and seek input from peers via telephone or computer-based communication tools. Collect regulatory water and wastewater samples (microbiological, chemical, raw sewage, and treated effluent), ensuring proper handling, packaging, and transportation to various laboratories using necessary Chains of Custody. Conduct in-house laboratory testing utilizing handheld instruments. Carry out process changes required to optimize treatment performance. Comply with the on-call rotation including evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays. Respond to varying issues at multiple sites. Interpret Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Process and Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs), review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and assist with asset data collection from sites to upload into a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Participate in the commissioning of new treatment plants, including process optimization, instrumentation, and control, as well as SCADA systems. Maintain logs and records pertaining to system performance and conditions in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements. Assist in maintaining a safe work environment by using appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Health and Safety training. Additional duties as required. Required Knowledge, Experience & Competencies Valid and current relevant Water and Wastewater licenses and certifications. Valid Ontario’s Driver’s License: Class G driver’s license, a clean driving record/abstract, and 6 years of full G driving experience to be eligible for a company vehicle, or; Class G2 driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle for business use. Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with tools.  Demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Computer skills including knowledge and understanding of Microsoft applications. Knowledge and understanding of relevant Water and Wastewater industry technologies. Basic knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations (Occupational Health & Safety Act, Drinking Water Standards, Drinking Water Protection Regulations, Safe Drinking Water Act, Spills Act, etc.). Willingness to learn and develop skills. Additional Preferred Qualifications Post-secondary education in environmental, chemical/biological, or engineering fields. Training and certification in Confined Space Entry (CSE), Working at Heights, First Aid, Lock-Out Tag-Out, WHMIS, and Transportation of Dangerous Goods, are considered strong assets. Hours of Work and Travel Expectations Operators and OIT’s will be required to regularly work outside of general business hours to facilitate the Operation and Maintenance. The Operator will be required to work on-call shifts on a rotation basis. There will be frequent travel throughout the area and periodic travel to other areas in Ontario.
