Darling is committed to environmental sustainability, superior quality and excellent customer service.Position Summary:Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, the Fleet Safety and Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring company fleet operations are compliant with all applicable federal and provincial transportation regulations and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation. This role proactively supports the development, implementation, and monitoring of safety programs to minimize risk, ensure driver compliance, and promote a strong safety. position TASKS AND responsibilites:Monitor and ensure compliance with all applicable transportation safety regulations (e.g., DOT, CVOR) for fleet operations across six locations, maintaining adherence through consistent oversight and reporting.Conduct regular audits and assessments of driver files, vehicle files, maintenance logs, and compliance records to ensure compliance across sites. Ensure compliance with all relevant commercial transportation regulations.Actively support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety policies and procedures to ensure organizational compliance and promote a culture of safety across all transportation operations.Develop and support corporate safety training programs and ensure all staff are up to date on certifications. Monthly H&S talks, defensive driving, distracted driving. Support the development and continuous improvement of safe driving and defensive driving programs.Support and assist in the investigation of vehicle incidents, collisions, and violations. Review root cause analyses and ensure the implementation of effective corrective actions and preventive measures.Track and report key performance indicators related to fleet safety and compliance including leading and lagging indicators of performance.Analyze incident alerts from Lytx software (e.g., dashcams, in-cabin cameras) to identify unsafe driving behaviors, distracted driving, and to document accident events. Ensure consistent practices across locations to drive behavior change and promote a culture of safety.Serve as a subject matter expert on transportation safety regulations and internal company standards, providing guidance and interpretation of applicable legislation (such as the Highway Traffic Act, and other relevant federal/provincial regulations).Additional responsibilities as required to support departmental or organizational goals.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Minimum 5–7 years of progressive experience in safety, compliance, or dispatch roles within the transportation industry.Thorough understanding of transportation safety regulations and compliance standards, including CVOR and DOT requirements.Hands-on experience with Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) and fleet management software.Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.Track record of developing and implementing safety protocols, training programs, and incident prevention strategies.Skilled in creating performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate safety initiatives and operational responsiveness.Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).Bilingual in French considered a strong asset.Willing to travel up to 40% of the time within Ontario and across Canada.AZ/DZ license an asset."G" Driver's license required.WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Office or Manufacturing Plant Environment.Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a standard office settingStand or sit for prolonged periods of time.Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate (up to 20 pounds) amounts of weight.Operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer.Required to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation.Ability to communicate to exchange information.WHAT WE OFFER:Salary range: $80,000 – $95,000 depending on experienceLife Insurance, Disability, Employee Assistance ProgramFlexible Health and Dental Benefit PlanParticipation in Annual Incentive PlanDefined Contribution Pension PlanEducational Assistance Programs and, Scholarship ProgramsDarling International Canada Inc. is committed to a workforce that reflects the diversity of the communities where our facilities are located.
