Unit Summary

The Research Planning & Analysis team provides operational and financial insight through the provision of timely and accurate information, presented in consumable formats for decision-making. We provide organizational expertise in the analysis, interpretation and integration of financial and clinical research data driving sustainable growth and efficiency across the Research Enterprise at HHS.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Research Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Grants Specialist to lead financial planning across various projects within HHS Research, while providing guidance on research funding and grant management. This role demands strong finance and accounting expertise, with a focus on financial management, strategic direction, and compliance across both grant-funded and non-grant-funded research projects. Key responsibilities include:


• Financial Leadership, Oversight & Analysis: The Sr. Advisor will lead key financial initiatives and provide financial oversight for research programs, ensuring proper fiscal planning, control, and accountability. This includes overseeing accounting processes, financial analysis, and reporting, as well as maintaining accurate financial records. Strong accounting and financial management skills are essential for designing and managing financial controls, KPIs, and conducting ad-hoc financial analysis. The Sr. Advisor will ensure that all financial activities align with organizational and regulatory standards.

• Grant Identification, Budgeting & Financial Oversight: Advises on the identification and promotion of research funding opportunities, supports grant proposal preparation, and ensures compliance with financial regulations. Expertise in managing the financial aspects of grant-funded projects, including budget development, reporting, and financial tracking, is crucial for success.

• Collaboration with Stakeholders: Works closely with researchers, study teams and other internal and external stakeholders to align research projects with strategic goals, secure funding, and optimize financial performance. The Sr. Advisor will also ensure effective financial management across both research and administrative teams, facilitating communication and ensuring financial accountability.

• Policy, Compliance & Financial Risk Management: Leads the design and implementation of financial policies and control frameworks to ensure compliance with grant management regulations and institutional standards. The Sr. Advisor will have significant responsibility for managing financial risks and ensuring that both research and operational programs maintain fiscal discipline and comply with financial regulations.

This role is designed for professionals with experience in financial oversight, accounting, and grants management and regulatory compliance, with the ability to manage a diverse range of research activities.

This position is eligible for a hybrid remote work arrangement, in accordance with HHS' Remote Work Policy.

Schedule Work Hours

Regular full-time hours.

Qualifications

The Sr. Advisor role requires the following:

Education – at least one of the following: Professional designation (i.e. CPA, CFA) – enrolment or completion ofApplicable post-graduate degree (i.e. MBA, Masters of Finance) – enrolment or completion ofOR the equivalent to the above (i.e. work experience)  Work Experience – 5+ years of relevant work experience Proven experience managing grants from government agencies and philanthropic organizations, including creating and managing budgets, preparing reports, and ensuring financial compliance with regulatory and institutional policies for research funding. Specialized Skills – 5+ years of experience in each of the following: Financial modelingFinancial graphical and visualizationFinancial and Operating Systems  Soft Skill Experience – 5+ years of experience in each of the following: Analytical and Problem Solving SkillsCommunication Skills – both formal (i.e. presentations, board reports, executive overviews/narratives) and informalInterpersonal SkillsCollaboration/Team Work Informal leadership, coaching and leaderships
