Summary We are seeking a talented Designer to join our dynamic team in Grimsby. Responsibilities Design fire sprinkler and standpipe systems using AutoCAD, Revit, and/or specialized fire protection software in a construction environment. Determine the applicable hazard(s) being protected and develop applicable fire sprinkler protection strategies in accordance with applicable Building codes, standards, and other project specific requirements Perform hydraulic calculations based on the applicable hazards being protected Interpret architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical plans to develop coordinated sprinkler system piping and sprinkler locations Prepare detailed design document submittals for approval Prepare detailed material lists for fabrication and installation Verify that all deliverables meet NFPA standards and local ordinances Collaborate with management, estimating, design, fabrication, installation and project management as a valuable team member resulting in increased profitability Qualifications 3-5 years’ working experience in fire protection design or related field or a recent graduate of post-secondary program in Fire Protection Engineering or related field of study. Knowledge of the design, layout, hydraulic calculations, stock listing of fire protections systems Project management knowledge is an asset. NICET Certification in Water-Based Systems Layout is considered an asset, and/or able to become certified. Proficiency using AutoCAD and/or Revit, MS Office, HydraCAD, and a hydraulic calculation & listing program(s) to design and layout systems. Experience with HydraCAD and/or HydraCAD for Revit is an asset Interpret and apply applicable Building/Fire codes & NFPA standards Strong verbal and written communication skills in English Obtain/retain any licenses required by national, province and local codes, and Troy Policies.
