As a not-for-profit municipally owned and subsidized long-term care home, with 206 beds, all of our resources are dedicated to our residents. Leamington, Ontario, located on the north shore of Lake Erie, provides a thriving diversity of urban and rural experiences. Weather, proximity to major centres (Windsor and Detroit) and an extremely affordable cost of living add to Leamington's charm. DAY IN THE LIFE Provide leadership for and management of resident care staff including planning, organizing, supervising, directing, coordinating and evaluating. Shift work as needed. Ensure the Resident Rights are upheld and maintained and that appropriate safety measures are adhered to. Ensure staff are working in alignment with SPH values and within the code of conduct. Ensure compliance with the legislation relevant to the nursing department i.e. Fixing Long Term Care Act, Regulated Health Professions Act, Personal Health Information Act, CNO standards, etc. Initiate Critical Incident reports and sending to MLTC. Identify and resolve resident care problems and identification of trends and issues in resident care delivery for further evaluation and planning. Conduct audits/ internal inspections of processes/policy/procedure to identify areas of improvement and follow up with areas of non-compliance. Actively participates in MLTC inspections Manage ongoing activities of nursing services by scheduling and assigning work and ensuring maximum utilization of staffing resources Maintain a professional approach with staff and develop effective communication channels between staff and residents. Maintain direct contact with residents in assigned Home Areas on a regular basis. Mediate staff conflict and action recommended outcomes including changing of processes. Ensure compliance with appropriate collective agreements Participate in multidisciplinary teams conference for residents as required. Develop, review, and implement policies and procedures of the resident care and nursing department. This will include operational frameworks, measurable objectives and mitigation of organizational risks ensuring compliance with all applicable legislation. Directs and develops nursing education and professional development programs within the program/specialty area to ensure delivery of care is reflective of best practice and expected clinical outcomes. Conducting needs assessment in order to determine the educational requirements of the staff and legislated requirements of the specialty area; establishing clinical outcomes of education programs. Shares on call responsibility with the Nursing Leadership 24 hours/day, 7 days/week and respond to emergencies as required Other duties as assigned. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Education (Degree/Diploma/Certification) Completion of the BScN (preferred) Must be a member in good standing with the College of Nurses Must pass a vulnerable sector check Negative TB Test or clear chest x-ray Knowledge of Infection Control is an asset Knowledge of RAI/MDS is an asset Experience Minimum two years experience in long term care 3-5 years geriatric experience 3-5 years administrative experience Knowledge/Skill/Ability Strong organizational skills Knowledge of Fixing Long-Term Care Act and Regulations Ability to maintain composure in a fast-paced, stressful environment Knowledge and familiarity with computer operations/nursing informatics and software applications, including resident records, and staff scheduling. Sound verbal communication and interpersonal skills, diplomacy and tact to respond to inquiries from a range on internal and external stakeholders and to participate and work collaboratively as a member of the Nursing and Personal Care team Ability to adapt to new environments and situations with a positive attitude. Reasoning, evaluative and problem-solving skills in managing resident care to identify what matters are important and urgent and should be given priority Knowledge of working in a Unionized environment is preferred.
