Description and ResponsibilitiesOperate and maintain heavy motorized equipment to unload and load ferrous materials safely and efficiently. In collaboration with the scale operator and office staff, ensure that customers' materials are unloaded smoothly while maintaining a steady flow of traffic in and out of the yard to minimize congestion.Operate heavy motorized equipment used in loading/unloading of ferrous material, including, but not limited to, loaders, cranes, grapple cranes, shears, and other equipment used to support the variety of activities essential to the yard operationsPerform preventative maintenance as required, including checking all fluids to ensure motorized equipment is properly maintained Loads trucks accurately (proper weights), safely, and efficiently, and communicates via radio to scale personnel for confirmation of material loaded and any issues that may come upUnload transports with ferrous materials, safely and efficiently, and clean (sweep) trailers of excess materialStockpile/sort metals and place them in the designated areasUse hand-held mobile radio devices to coordinate tasks and resources with yard and scale personnel effectivelyMaintain accurate logs and records daily, weekly, and monthly, and/or as required by supervisionRequirementsCompletion of High School and/or equivalentMust have a valid Driver's LicenseKnowledge of yard operationsMust have 2 years of experience operating heavy motorized equipmentKnowledge and understanding of ferrous metals and classificationsCustomer focus: takes responsibility for developing excellent customer service, making sure that all purchases are handled professionally and expeditiouslyCommunication Skills: communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and/or via mobile radio devicesTeam Player: establishes trust with team members, stating clear expectations, recognizes group morale, and acts to protect and/or build as requiredSelf-motivated: initiates and takes action before being required to do so.
