Job Summary Reporting to the Principal Investigator (PI), the Research Assistant contributes to the development, implementation and completion of transfusion medicine studies in the Pathology and Molecular Medicine department primarily based within Kingston Health Sciences Centre. The Research Assistant assists in the recruitment of study participants (e.g. identifies and screens potential subjects, obtains informed consent, conducts pre-testing and administers questionnaires or other data collection tools); assists in planning, implementation and coordination of all aspects of data collection and source documentation, as per KHSC policy and ICH/GCP guidelines, conducts telephone and/or clinical recruitment interviews to collect data using established criteria, coordinates patient visits schedule as per study protocol; assists in study visits (e.g. assessment, adverse events, monitoring safety, medication, questionnaires, sample collection, including processing and shipment of samples according to clinical protocol),and plans, designs and organizes scoring procedures and computer databases for ongoing and new research studies. The incumbent may perform computer statistical analyses and generate response curves, status reports; coordinating research activities in collaborating hospitals and other administrative duties including those associated with the grant. Job Description KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:• Maintains effective communication and regular updates with Principal Investigator (PI).• Coordinates research activities and complete ethics forms. Assists with ethics submissions through the local ethics board, Clinical Trials Ontario and collaborating hospitals. • Prepares study materials, including protocols, consent forms and data collection forms. • Recruits study participants (e.g. identifies and screens potential subjects, obtains informed consent, conducts pre-testing and administers questionnaires or other data collection tools) and obtains informed consent. • Performs data entry and prepare results for analysis. • Coordinates and conducts patient visits as per study protocol (e.g. assessment, adverse events, monitoring safety, medication, questionnaires, sample collection, processing and shipment of samples according to clinical protocol). • Oversees monitoring and data queries for local projects. • Assists with budgeting and basic financial tasks. • Assists with on-boarding training and orientation of students/casual research staff.• Undertakes other duties or special projects as required in support of the PI, unit or department. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:• Bachelor degree in a relevant field or equivalent clinical and research experience. • 2 years of clinical research experience in a related field. • Knowledge of research regulations and guidelines, such as ICH/GCP guidelines, Tri-Council Policy, Declaration of Helsinki and FDA CFR and Health Canada TPD. • Experience recruiting patients required to clinical trial. • Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.
