In this 4-month role (May-August 2026), the Electrical Instrumentation Co-op Student will be responsible for maintaining a high standard of maintenance work and utilizing technical expertise in the safe operation of work performed at the Sarnia facility. This position is safety-sensitive. The successful candidate will be required to complete pre-employment testing.This is a Unifor Local 672 position covered by the terms of the collective agreement.A DAY IN THE LIFESupport safe plant operation by consistently promoting and demonstrating compliance to safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance, and quickly responding to safety concernsRegularly follow up on work in progress in the assigned areas to ensure compliance with standards, procedures, and schedulesEnsure personal adherence to Corporate and Sarnia Site policies and procedures, maintenance standards, safe work planning process, maintenance strategies, and consistent application of the Collective AgreementAssist in the completion of permit requests and attend permit request meetingsAssist in Contractor management as requiredPerform all other duties as requiredABOUT YOUTo be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:Enrollment in a recognized Instrumentation and Control, Electrical Power Distribution & Control Technician program or relevant trade recognized by TransAltaDemonstrated knowledge of occupational hazards and safetyAdequate computer skills to support SAP and Work Management activitiesOUR CULTUREAt TransAlta, we’re driven by a Culture of Results, Learning, and Purpose.
