The Tissue Recovery Coordinator is passionate about tissue and organ donation and is dedicated to achieving optimal outcomes in the donation process through effective collaboration with the health care team.The Tissue Recovery Coordinator role offers the opportunity to develop expertise in the surgical recovery phase of the tissue donation process.This position is based out of Sudbury and involves significant travel around the Sudbury region and as required anywhere in the province for the surgical recovery of human eyes.The Tissue Recovery Coordinator will typically be scheduled for 12 hour on-call and the shifts are days and nights. You will be given additional compensation when you are dispatched to a case.Here is what you will be doing: Performs the surgical recovery of eye tissue (in-situ/corneal excision and whole globe) from deceased individualsPackages and transports tissues in accordance with TGLN and Health Canada standards using aseptic techniqueAs required, will assist with the recovery of human heart valves, skin and muscle-skeletal tissuesCoordinates the tissue recovery process, which includes assessing the medical suitability of potential tissue donors in collaboration with members of the TGLN teamPerforms the screening, evaluation, packaging and transportation of human tissue, and collection of blood and other test samples in accordance with TGLN standardsPerforms technical duties in support of the recovery such as medical chart review, blood draw and physical examination of the deceased as well as other technical responsibilitiesWorks closely with TGLN’s Provincial Resource Centre and local healthcare professionals throughout the process to obtain required information and supportEnsures that all documentation is recorded accurately and completely. Reviews documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness and compliance with established processesMaintains and prepares equipment and suppliesAssists with projects, and the development of processes and documentationPerforms quality control functions related to the rolePerforms other duties consistent with the role, as requiredHere is what you will need to be successful: Education and ExperienceUniversity degree or college diploma in health sciences, nursing (RPN), funeral services, pathology assistant, paramedicine, biological sciences or a recognized equivalent is requiredFour (4) years’ work experience in a health sciences environment specifically in operating room, pathology, paramedicine, funeral services or clinical laboratory medical setting is preferred or a combination of equivalent experience and educationCertification in eye or tissue banking, blood banking or laboratory technology is an assetExperience in organ and tissue donation, tissue recovery and/or processing is an assetA valid class G driver's license without restrictions and access to a reliable vehicle is requiredAbility to drive long distances requiredAbility to work a variety of 12-hour shifts including days, nights and weekends is requiredAbility to lift parcels up to 35 lbs and move patients with similar forcesAbility to travel throughout the assigned area and on occasion as needed across the province is requiredKnowledge and SkillsDemonstrated superior written and oral communication skillsDemonstrated in depth knowledge of biological and health sciences as well as quality assurance and aseptic technique is preferredProven ability to maintain and protect patient confidentiality at all times, demonstrating use of discretion and sound judgmentProven ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a teamDemonstration of good hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills and surgical conscience are requiredDemonstrated superior written and oral communication skillsRate of Pay: $36.14 to $45.18 per hourEmployment Type: Casual permanent positionEmployment Location: Sudbury region.
