This support role is crucial for maintaining and growing the largely offshore loan portfolio. The role is centered on the underwriting of standardized Pledge Loans or specially structured credits adjudicated through ACE (Adjudication Centre of Expertise) or Global Risk Management.The Credit Advisor contributes to the quality and profitable growth of the credit portfolio by completing credit-related activities such as risk analysis, deal structuring, pricing, negotiation, and submission of credit applications in accordance with lending guidelines. The role focuses on completing credit requests and ensuring compliance with annual loan reviews.Additional responsibilities include collateral monitoring for offshore loans, reviewing coverage for loan funding and portfolio releases, preparing loan and security documentation, and ensuring documents are executed properly. The Credit Advisor works directly with the Senior Credit Advisor and interacts with Private Bankers, Associates, Operations, and other support units. Responsibilities / Accountabilities:Completion of IPB Credit Advisory ActivitiesEnsure timely analysis, structuring, and presentation of credit proposals.Perform proper due diligence to identify key personal/business elements and fundamental risks, and verify material facts.Provide prompt and sound recommendations for credit proposals that meet lending guidelines as approved by ACE and GRM.Recommend loan pricing that aligns with risk, profitability, administrative needs, and competitive factors.Communicate effectively with Wealth Managers and Associates to ensure clarity of decision rationale for client discussions.Provide guidance related to pledge lending to Private Bankers and Associates.Identify lending and cross‑sell opportunities within the existing portfolio and refer opportunities to the Senior Credit Advisor.Management of Pledge Loan Portfolio and Annual ReviewsEnsure adherence to authorized conditions and reporting requirements.Evaluate information received and report deficiencies or negative findings to senior management.Inform Senior Credit Advisor of developing credit weaknesses using ongoing financial, legal, political, technological, and industry analysis.Conduct accurate and timely annual reviews of IPB pledge loans.Ensure collateral is properly completed, executed, lodged, and reassessed under Bank policies, including IG code reassessments.Identify early signs of problem accounts and take action to protect the Bank’s interests.Ensure compliance with regulatory and internal Bank policies, including Reputational and Suitability Risk.Day‑to‑Day Portfolio ManagementMonitor collateral coverage within the IPB‑Toronto loan portfolio and identify existing or potential offsides.Analyze portfolio limits and collateral coverage to ensure loan advances and collateral releases comply with approvals.Manage the IPB‑Toronto Credit Advisory tracking tool: annual review dates, proposal status, volumes, and productivity.Manage collateral lending value override files.Support the Senior Credit Advisor with credit proposals or account management.Loan Documentation ResponsibilitiesPrepare loan and security documentation for custom credits in full compliance with approvals.Review executed documents, confirm integrity, and communicate execution to Operations.Maintain organized client document folders for accessibility.Confirm conditions precedent for loan setup and advances and forward documentation to Operations.Handle additional documentation‑related tasks as required.Communication and Implementation of Credit AuthorizationsReview written authorizations for accuracy, completeness, and clarity.Follow up promptly for client acceptance of offers/documents, addressing issues and informing senior management as needed.Address issues with documentation adequacy, quality, or completeness.Respond promptly to client or senior management inquiries.Internal Collaboration and LearningActively participate in team development activities and contribute to team performance.Build and maintain productive working relationships with team members and corporate partners.Maintain a high level of customer service.Support open and honest communication.Participate meaningfully in team meetings and touchpoints.Encourage innovation and new approaches.Knowledge DevelopmentMaintain relationships with specialized Bank areas that may benefit clients or the team.Share knowledge to enhance team performance.Follow development plans and complete required training. Education, Experience, and Skills3 - 5 years of experience in Banking, ideally with knowledge of lending, credit risk, and investments.University degree in business, accounting, a related discipline, or quantitative fields. Designations are an asset.Knowledge of the broader Wealth Management offering, including International Private Banking and Scotia Capital (desirable).Familiarity with internal systems (desirable), such as CIS, OLL System, Total Wealth, Credit Fulfillment, Salesforce, Branch Forms, Softek.Fluency in Spanish is required.Strong problem‑solving ability, attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to prioritize and multitask.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Strong understanding of credit administration, loan documentation, and security requirements.Knowledge of business structures (desirable).High adaptability and flexibility.Strong PC skills, including MS Office. Working Conditions:Work is performed in a standard office environment or hybrid arrangement per Bank policy.High client service expectations require prompt and timely responses to credit needs.Occasional non‑standard work hours may be required for time‑sensitive credit applications. Location(s):  Canada : Ontario : Toronto Scotiabank is a leading bank in the Americas.
