We offer a safe, friendly atmosphere for children ages 6-16 to develop physical and emotional skills while learning to live together comfortably in an outdoor environment. While developing an appreciation for the natural setting, Cedar Ridge campers and staff develop self-confidence and independence, creating friendships that last a lifetime. We believe that canoeing is integral to our Canadian identity and is an important part of the program at Cedar Ridge. Job Goal / Summary: As a Cedar Ridge Staff member, your primary concern is the physical and mental health and wellbeing of campers. Specifically, the Kayaking Instructor will teach beginner to intermediate flatwater kayaking skills to campers on our lake. The Kayaking Instructor is also responsible for helping to maintain the kayak beach, paddles, lifejackets, and the boats themselves. Camper, LIT, and Staff safety on the water is always top of mind for instructors. Cedar Ridge Camp is located on Wanamaker Lake in the Madawaska Highlands region of Ontario. While at camp, you will have access to all facilities and equipment while enjoying a daily camp routine filled with incredible programming and unique experiences. Qualifications and Certificates: Bronze Cross Certification, Lifesaving Society (Required) Standard or Emergency First Aid, CPR–C Certification (Required) Kayak Instructor Certification, ORCKA or Paddle Canada (Asset) Canoe Instructor Certification, ORCKA or Paddle Canada (Asset) National Lifeguard Certification, Lifesaving Society (Asset) Pleasure Craft Operator Card (Asset) Driver’s Licence (Asset) Responsibilities: Develop and/or deliver safe, age-appropriate kayaking lessons Participate in mandatory training during pre-camp (June 22-26) Ensure that every camper has access to opportunities and support, and that all campers’ needs are being met (accessibility, modifications, etc…) Participate in on-site programs, activities, and special periods Participate in emergency procedures Adhere to camp policies, and respond appropriately to emergencies or accidents Care for and maintain equipment and program area Track and record camper progress, as required by the Program Director Encourage participation in the kayaking program Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform this job.
