Job Posting Senior Counsellor Staff Counsellor Salary: $3000 for 7 weeks of camp (inclusive of meals and lodging) About Camp Quin-Mo-Lac: Quin-Mo-Lac is a residential overnight camp for co-ed campers aged 7-14 years old, located on Moira Lake (halfway between Madoc and Tweed, north of Belleville). QML has 240 acres of land, mostly woods with some fields. We have 2 kms of shoreline and an island that we also use for programming. Our programs include crafts, music, canoeing, high ropes, low ropes, archery, orienteering, initiatives, swimming, rock climbing, hiking and overnights. Our campers stay for 1 week in either cabins or our lodge with a group of similar-aged peers and 3-4 counsellors. Work begins for our staff with a staff training on the first weekend of May and then a full staff orientation and training week that occurs June 26- June 30th. Staff spend camp weeks onsite and are housed in a staff cabin. Our staff come from all over Ontario (and beyond) and most return year after year. Camp Dates: Co-ed 1: June 30- July 4 Co-ed 2: July 4- July 11 Co-ed 3: July 15- July 22 Co-ed 4: July 22- July 29 Co-ed 5: Aug 1 – Aug 8 Co-ed 6: Aug 8 – Aug 15 Co-ed 7: Aug 18- Aug 25 Staff spend camp weeks onsite and may sleep in a camper cabin or staff cabin depending on the week. Our staff come from all over Ontario (and beyond) and most return year after year. Camp staff have a 3-hour break between Co-ed 1-2, Co-ed 3-4, and Co-ed 5-6 and a 3-day break between Co-ed 2-3, Co-ed 4-5, and Co-ed 6-7. Staff are responsible for bringing their own toiletries and linen. Staff join our campers for all meals. Position Summary: Reporting to the Assistant Directors and Summer Camp Director, Senior Counsellors are responsible for ensuring the safety and full participation of the campers in all aspects of camp. This will include, but not be limited to, supervision of a designated group of campers and volunteer counselling staff. Position Responsibilities: To attend pre-camp training events in May & June. To complete pre-camp programming preparation in respect to the theme and program ideas. To conduct yourself in a professional manner and be responsible in keeping with the camp rules and regulations making sure that you are prepared to assume your responsibilities each day. To lead a counselling team with the responsibility for day-to-day programming of a group of campers. To work in a co-operative & supportive manner with your volunteer staff and be a positive role model for campers & volunteers. To understand the developmental needs of the various age groups of children and be responsive to those needs in carrying out your duties. To understand your role as it relates to all safety and emergency procedures and interpret safety procedures to the volunteers and campers in your group each week. To make sure that the children in your care are free from any harm to their total health and safety. To see that the children in your care experience a full and complete camping experience which is exciting and positive. To be knowledgeable of special medical needs and prepared to respond to these needs. To be knowledgeable of special custody orders. To use appropriate professional respectful language with campers or staff. To work co-operatively with the Summer Camp Director, Assistant Directors and Program Staff. To keep the Directors informed of any situations with campers regarding sexual conduct, drug & alcohol use etc. To submit the appropriate forms as requested by the Assistant Directors, Directors which relate to the operation of camp. To attend all meetings as required for the smooth operation of each camp session and take an active part in the total camp program. To be an equal partner in planning and executing your assigned Campfire and Special Day programs. To work in a supportive co-operative manner with the Maintenance Staff to ensure health and safety and respect of the physical camp property. To supervise campers (whether they are your campers or not), to ensure that there is no damage or defacement of camp property. All staff, are responsible for camper actions each week. To ensure that your assigned accommodation is kept clean, organized and open to inspection by the Assistant Directors/Director or other visitors or Inspections. To be conscious of your personal appearance and attitude. To participate in an evaluative process twice during the summer. Position Requirements: Minimum of 18 years of age Experience in residential camping or equivalent experience in working with children A demonstrated & sincere desire to work with children and youth in an outdoor residential setting
