Job DescriptionThis position is for the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital’s Birthing Suite (Labour & Delivery) and Maternal Newborn (postpartum) areas (Level 2B).The Professional Practice Leader (PPL) is accountable to the Manager, Interprofessional Practice, who provides primary leadership, coordination and support for day-to-day responsibilities. The role also maintains an integrated partnership with both the Director, Women & Children and the Director, Professional Practice & Chief Practice Information Officer, ensuring alignment with program priorities, corporate professional practice standards and organizational quality and safety goals. Through this shared-leadership structure, the role contributes to consistent practice excellence across the Women & Children program while advancing system-level professional practice initiatives.In addition to this reporting relationship, the PPL will collaborate and work closely with the Halton Healthcare Women & Children Patient Care Managers, Providers and fellow PPLs to ensure high quality, safe patient and family centered care.The PPL is a key member of Halton Healthcare, responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and evaluation of education and professional development initiatives that enhance clinical competence, support evidence-informed practice, and foster a culture of continuous learning. The PPL collaborates closely with interprofessional teams, frontline staff, leadership and external partners to strengthen quality patient care and staff development across the organization.By advancing the reliability of clinical practice, the PPL promotes care that is safe, evidence-based, and aligned with both regulatory and organizational standards. The role emphasizes clinical skill development and real-time coaching, ensuring responsiveness and adaptability to evolving care needs.Through strategic leadership and expert guidance, the PPL advances practice excellence by building staff capacity, supporting safe, evidence-informed care, and strengthening organizational readiness and agility to meet the highest standards for patients and families. Key ResponsibilitiesEducation & Professional DevelopmentPlan and deliver orientation, in-service education, and ongoing professional development for clinical staff and learnersDevelop and evaluate competency-based education and clinical skill validation aligned with evidence-informed practiceSupport regulatory and mandatory education requirements across programsPractice Support & Clinical CoachingProvide real-time clinical coaching and practice support at the point of careSupport staff in applying new knowledge, policies, and practice standardsIdentify and address program-level and regulatory education needsPolicy Guideline, and Procedure DevelopmentCollaborate on the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, procedures, and clinical guidelinesSupport integration of new or revised practice standards into clinical environmentsAct as a practice and regulatory resource for staff and leadersQuality Improvement & Knowledge TranslationSupport quality improvement initiatives aligned with organizational prioritiesUse data, audits, and performance indicators to identify practice gaps and learning needsTranslate evidence and insights into sustainable practice changeCollaboration & LeadershipCollaborate with Program Directors, Quality teams, and interprofessional partners to align practice and education prioritiesDemonstrates responsibility and accountability for promoting a work environment that exemplifies respect, interprofessional and ethical practice, professional autonomous decision-making and maximized scope of practice.Participate in organizational committees, working groups, and external partnershipsSupport system-wide change initiatives that advance practice excellenceLeading and/or participating in specific related projects, as assigned.QualificationsCurrent Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario is requiredBaccalaureate Degree in Nursing requiredMasters Degree in Nursing, Education, Health Administration or similar field preferredActive member in good standing with College of Nurses of OntarioMembership in professional association ( RNAO) preferredMinimum 5 years clinical experience at a level 2 or above hospital is preferredCurrent NRP and fetal health surveillance certification at time of hire and ongoing is requiredCompletion of a breastfeeding certificate course at time of hire and ongoing is requiredSkills and experience to train staff regarding operative assistance at caesarian sections is requiredFetal health surveillance instructor designation is required at time of hire or expectation to achieve certification within 6 months of hireNRP instructor designation is an assetCompletion of quality improvement programs such as MOREOBTM and PROMPT is an assetKnowledge of professional practice issues, standards of practice, best practice guidelines and clinical management tools is requiredSkilled in the application of adult learning principles, human factors principles, change management, and project management is an assetDemonstrated research skills is an assetStrong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills is requiredAble to prioritize/organize multiple projects with strict deadlinesAble to work autonomouslyProficient with Microsoft Office applicants including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPointAdditional InformationHours: Monday to Friday - hour days, 0800-1600 (hours are subject to change based on operational needs)Salary: $ to $ per hourDate Posted: January 23, 2026Internal Applications Due By: January 30, 2026REF2981O
