Description Highlights of the jobWe are hiringone full-time, temporary Power Lineman 3for up to 11 months in Edmonton, AB.As the Power Lineman 3 in Aerial Transmission, you will install, maintain, and repair the aerial transmission and distribution system. You will be accountable for coaching, leading and working with trades and non-trades personnel engaged in constructing, maintaining and repairing distribution & transmission (D&T) power lines and electrical equipment up to and including 500 KV.What you’d be responsible forEnsuring the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics. This includes timely reporting of all incidents and safety concerns through the Event Reporting System (ERS), providing higher level technical expertise, assisting colleagues to resolve problems, keeping the Power Lineman 4 informed of task progress and performance, making recommendations for improvement to the work, and working as a team to ensure success.Climbing transmission towers and working in a bucket at heights in excess of 100’ for prolonged durationsSafely setting up and executing aerial transmission work in an urban setting; reading and interpreting OSCAM permits and re-routing traffic to ensure a safe work zoneInspecting Transmission infrastructure from the ground or the airSwitching on energized electrical apparatus and system automation componentsSupporting contractors to complete several maintenance programs including but not limited to tower painting and vegetation managementWorking on energized aerial systems (120-25,000 volts) using rubber glove and other live line techniquesResponding to emergency conditions and environmental hazardsPerforming various administrative functions such as report writing, as built information, Ivara comments and timesheetsMentoring and training new employees and/or apprenticesWhat’s required to be successfulGrade 12, or G.E.D, or equivalent is requiredJourneyman Powerline Technician certificate or Power Lineman certificate is required3+ years of directly related experience at a Journeyman level is requiredFamiliarity with Occupational Health & Safety regulations; will be required to obtain a working knowledge of related provincial safety legislation and city bylawsThorough working knowledge of protective grounding, climbing poles with belt and spurs, aerial bucket/hydraulic equipment, tension stringing devices, and electrical safe work practicesProven ability to read technical drawings and schematics (hard copy and electronic) Strong computer skills and proficiencyin Microsoft Word, Excel, and OutlookAbility to successfully complete EPCOR’s switching school to fulfill role requirementsAbility to qualify for and maintain an EPCOR driver’s permit, which requires a valid Class 3 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License.Limited to 6 demerits or less at date of hire (prior infractions for unsafe driving behaviours will be evaluated and considered for non-selection regardless of current demerits on file).A Driver Abstract (5 year commercial type) will be required.Ability to withstand strenuous physical activity inherent to the work performed, as well as to function effectively outside under a variety of weather conditions and through all seasons. Please note that due to the nature of this position you will be required to wear a ½ mask respirator for extended periods on a daily basis.Preference may be given to candidates that have:A valid Class 1 licenseExperience working on energizedaerial distributionsystemsExperience working on aerial transmission line infrastructureExperience operating a 135’ manliftExperience operating up to a 15K telehandler (zoom boom) Formal training in high angle rescue or rope rescue from transmission structuresKnowledge of EPCOR work practices, policies and procedures, OH&S, AEUC, EPCOR Safety Manual, etc.As the successful candidate, you demonstrate strong organizational, troubleshooting and decision-making skills, and are committed to service and excellence.
