We need passionate individuals who share in our mission by leading one of our various summer camp programs. Role OverviewThe Summer Camp Director is responsible for overall leadership of the designated summer camp program. They will provide leadership to core business areas including risk management, managing staff and volunteers, program development and implementation; ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all campers, staff and volunteers; working within the approved operating budget; and adhering to all safety standards.The Summer Camp Director will collaborate with a variety of Scouts Canada Property support personnel, which may include a Camp Warden, Camp Ranger, designated property maintenance team and Property Operations administrative staff. Duties & Responsibilities:Supporting and providing leadership for all camp programs and staffProvide high quality customer service while completing day-to-day administrative responsibilities.Develop and deliver summer camp curriculum adhering to Scout Canada’s Safety standards as well as ensuring program objectives align with the Canadian PathRecruit, train and mentor staff and volunteers in accordance with Scouts Canada Human Resource policies and proceduresManaging camp budget to ensure operating expenses align with approved camp budget and report variances to direct Supervisor, requesting approval from direct Supervisor for expenses that exceed or are not in the approved camp budget.Provide leadership to risk management practices, building a culture of safety, reporting accidents and incidents to direct Supervisor and/or Safe Scouting in a timely manner.Support the development of 3rd party partnerships, with a focus on building sustainable operating relationships.Collaborate with Property Support personnel, which may include Scouts Canada staff and/or volunteers to ensure long-term sustainability of camp infrastructure and physical assets, reporting any damages or safety concerns to the appropriate individual.Support the development of fund-raising initiatives which may include investigating and writing grants, fundraising events, etc.Provide leadership to food services staff (where applicable), ensuring balanced and nutritious meals are prepared in accordance with Food Safe Handling requirements and that all food storage and preparation areas meet or exceed applicable health regulations. Monitor overall food budget and expenses.Provide leadership to Health and Wellness staff, which may include First aiders, registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), etc. ensuring that all campers, staff and volunteers are supported with their health and wellness needs.Provide reports as needed including the end of season report with recommendations for the following year.Ensure that camp program operations adhere to all applicable legislation, acts, Scouts Canada policies and procedures and industry best practices.Support marketing and promotion activities as required.Develop a positive working relationship with the volunteer Camp Committee and seek approval from your direct Supervisor for any initiatives or recommendations a Camp Committee wishes to implement prior to implementation. Qualifications and Job-Specific Competencies:Strong interpersonal skills, a friendly manner and the ability to work with all levels of staff, volunteers and external visitorsHuman resource managementFinancial ManagementOutstanding customer service skillsReliable, punctual and dependable with a proven ability to work independently as well as to perform effectively in a team environmentExcellent verbal and written communication skillsSolid project management skills and ability to coordinate, plan and schedule multiple projects at the same timeExceptional organizational skills and time management to prioritize activities and allocate resources effectivelyProvide creative and innovative ideas and approaches to program designPost Secondary in related field or equivalent experienceExpert knowledge of camping and camp programsExperience in managing and tracking budgetsExperience in working with a wide variety of staff, including young workersExperience with leading and managing a teamMinimum of 2 years of experience in a related fieldGood knowledge of computers, email, booking systems and related softwareGeneral knowledge of food services, program delivery, facilities, retail Understanding of applicable fire safety, environmental, health and safety codeStandard First Aid and CPR is required prior to startPRC (Police Record Check) and VSS (Vulnerable Sector Check) is required, prior to startKnowledge of WHMIS and Health and SafetyProficient in MS Office, including Excel, Word and Outlook Working ConditionsClear PRC (Police Record Check) and VSS (Vulnerable Sector Check) are required before the start date.Mandatory training requirement.Frequent exposure to environmental conditions (rain, heat and cold)During summer camp program a significant amount of time is spent outdoorsAble to work hybrid January through June and work on site July and AugustMay be required to live on site during the months of July and AugustOccasional weekends (March through May) on site may be requiredAble to be on-call as assigned to address after hours situations during summer camp program Physical Demands:Regular lifting of 50 poundsPushing, pulling and bending over frequentlyExtended periods of time standing and/or walking on uneven terrain Work Schedule:This position has varying hours and work schedules depending on the season as follows:January – May: Up to 20 hours per week (Part-time) June – August: Up to 40 hours per week (Full-time) September: Up to 20 hours per week (Part-time) Ready to Apply?
