Job Description The Senior Medical Information Officer (SMIO) is a key leader in Saskatchewan health care, partnering with system leaders to achieve our province’s healthcare goals. Reporting to the Vice President of Quality, Safety & Chief Information Officer, and as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Senior Medical Information Officer is responsible for developing and executing strategy in support of the overall business plan and strategic direction of the Saskatchewan Health Authority. The Senior Medical Information Officer works in a team-based approach with the Executive Director, Digital Health in a dyad management team. The Senior Medical Information Officer provides strategic leadership by articulating gaps, needs and plans as part of the executive leadership team. The Senior Medical Information Officer demonstrates strong leadership to ensure that there is an innovative and positive working climate and a client-centric culture. S/he utilizes methodologies to improve effectiveness, quality and safety of healthcare delivery to ensure the Saskatchewan Health Authority can provide optimum health care for the residents of Saskatchewan. The Senior Medical Information Officer works closely with the Ministry of Health and other system partners. Job Qualifications Education: Licensed medical practitioner in good standing with the Canadian Certified Physician Executive credential would be an asset Advanced education in healthcare administration, public administration and/or leadership studies would be an asset Participation in the Canadian Medical Association’s Physician Leadership Institute would be an asset Additional training and/or education in leadership/management and information systems /clinical informatics would be an asset Experience: Has experience, at a strategic level, as a medical leader who has developed and led innovative programs in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment 5+ years of experience in healthcare leadership/management/administration 5+ years of experience in leading initiatives for clinical informatics Has knowledge of and experience in guiding health quality improvement processes and initiatives Has experience working in dyadic leadership roles and relationships Has experience supporting clinical process redesign initiatives Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Advanced knowledge of the healthcare system in Saskatchewan and across Canada Advanced knowledge of legislation and applicable laws Has demonstrated ability to coach and develop others Has demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills Has demonstrated strong critical thinking, financial and analytical skills Exemplifies ethical practices, professionalism and personal integrity Promotes innovation, guides change and is committed to continuous improvement Expertise in process improvement, data analysis and the use of information and systems to develop and support outcome measurement and management Has a proven ability to collaborate strategically with a wide variety of stakeholders to balance the needs and interests of these diverse groups within the corporate agenda Has a proven ability to build interprovincial/external relationships as well as strategic partnerships with government, physicians, unions, academic institutions, professional associations and other healthcare organizations. Demonstrates a commitment to a diverse, culturally competent and culturally safe work environment and representative workforce Demonstrates and is recognized for strategic leadership that includes articulation of mission, vision and strategy and charts a path forward Mobilizes people, inspires and leads by example Is committed to patient and family centred care Is committed to quality, safety and continuous improvement striving towards zero harm Other Information: Valid Class 5 driver’s license Travel within the province of Saskatchewan is required The location of this position is dependent upon the location of the successful applicant. The expected start date for this position is January 5, 2026.
