Your Opportunity:Located in Calgary, the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC) is a large acute care hospital with over 600 inpatient beds across Medical, Surgical, Pediatrics, Women’s Health, and Critical Care units. It serves as the Vascular Centre for Southern Alberta, Southwestern Saskatchewan, and Southeastern British Columbia, offering both inpatient and outpatient services. The Allied Health Department at PLC includes Rehabilitation, Social Work, and Spiritual Care professionals who are essential members of the interdisciplinary team. These staff provide patient- and family-centered care throughout the hospital. Under the general supervision of the Clinical Leader and Allied Health management, the successful candidate will gain experience in assessment, treatment, education, and management of patients in diverse areas, including general medicine, orthopedic and general surgery, intensive care, vascular surgery (including amputee rehab), and the emergency department as needed. The Occupational Therapist I will maintain an evidence-based practice aligned with professional standards. Caseloads will vary to meet operational needs, with potential support across any unit to ensure balanced workload distribution within the team. This physically demanding position requires frequent lifting and transferring of patients and/or equipment. Success in this role requires a strong commitment to inclusive, patient- and family-centered care, recognizing and supporting the diverse needs of populations served, including ethno-cultural, equity-seeking, racialized, faith-based, LGBTQ2S+, vulnerable, marginalized individuals, persons with disabilities, and all age groups.Description: As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will provide evidence-informed services, with a focus on occupational performance designed to meet the needs of individuals, groups, or a community. You may act as a direct service provider, consultant, educator, or advocate and function as an integral health care team member. You will engage individuals, groups, and communities to enable meaningful and chosen occupations, including self-care, productivity and leisure. You will support clients to achieve optimum functional abilities and independence related to their cognitive, affective, spiritual, and physical strengths and limitations. As an OT, you will provide comprehensive services, including triage, screening, consultation, assessment, diagnosis, collaborative goal setting, treatment, prevention, self-management, education, case management, referral, transition support, and collaboration with relevant and chosen stakeholders and supports within the client¿s physical, institutional, cultural, and social environments. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. You will collaborate with clients and families in determining, implementing, and evaluating rehabilitation. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich support and engage in quality improvement by partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families, and other stakeholders to advance services for the clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community and participate in peer mentoring and supervising students. You may also provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides. Required Qualifications: Completion of bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program. Registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).Additional Required Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications: Experience in the following acute care areas preferred: Orthopedics, General Medicine, and Critical Care. Previous training in Connect Care an asset. Understanding of trauma informed care principles. Experience working with diverse communities, groups and/or organizations ( ethno-cultural, equity-setting, racialized, faith-based, LGBTQ2S+, vulnerable, marginalized, persons with disabilities, etc.).
