Service: Long Term Care Services Employment Type: Multiple Casual Positions Affiliation: CUPE 503 Inside/Outside Salary Information: $29.742 - $34.797 per hour (2024 rates of pay)Location: Various Locations City: Ottawa, ON Job Category: Long term Care Application Close: 28/01/2026JOB SUMMARY Resident Care is responsible for the planning, coordinated development, management and implementation of long term care home nursing and personal care activities, programs, services and initiatives to the residents of a municipal long term care facility.  You are responsible for supporting total resident care, according to a Resident Care Plan, ensuring residents' optimal functioning and well-being in a supportive, therapeutic environment, with an emphasis on resident safety and engagement. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Completion of a Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate program* which meets the standards established in the Fixing Long-Term Care Act. Clinical Practicum hours within the Personal Support Worker program consist of a minimum of one hundred and forty (140) hours, as practical experience, preferably with clinic experience in a geriatric or long term care setting. Combined class and practical experience must be 600 hours in duration. KNOWLEDGE Resident hygiene, optimal functioning, well-being, feeding, elimination Health Care Aide routines and practices in a long-term care setting  Infection prevention and control guidelines Transfer and positioning techniques of residents Rehabilitation and palliative care approaches Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Effective team member Respectful and caring to residents Communicate with cognitively impaired residents, and their families Organize and prioritize workload Manage time effectively Follow resident care plan and carry out activities as directed Report resident needs through observation of physical and mental condition/behaviour Follow safety procedures to maintain a safe and clean environment Transfer and positioning techniques of persons requiring long-term care Good interpersonal and communications skills Meets the physical demands of the job Self-motivated Displays a positive attitude towards older persons Demonstrates respect for resident choice, privacy and confidentiality Communicate respectfully with residents, families, colleagues and staff Reliable, punctual, flexible, adaptable, tactful WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Language Requirement: Various language requirements, locations may require English only, French only OR Bilingual competencies. Some positions require English oral, reading, and writing. Some positions required French oral, reading and writing. Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3) with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.; Note: Under the age of 18, requires a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters (Level 2) check in place of the Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3).; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted. You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
