The PositionReporting to the Social Development Manager, the Program Assistant works alongside and receives day-to-day work directions from the Outreach and Activity Coordinator for MWSU. The Program Assistant also receives work direction from the Social Workers (MWSU and Complex Care) for higher-level guidance regarding client care plans and specific support requests. Client support strategies must align with established client care plans.Note: This is a 3-month coverage - Monday to Friday 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, with some evenings and weekends may be required. The maximum hours per day are 6, or 30 per week. The Candidate:Provide administrative support for the peer volunteer program, including communication assistance, volunteer scheduling, hours tracking, and financial requests.Support logistical needs for MWSU events and activities, including facility bookings, child-minding coordination, purchase orders, supply shopping, and event/meeting setup and cleanup.Assist with community outreach and safety support through home/site visits alongside MWSU staff.Arrange or provide transportation as needed for clients, including ride arrangements, vehicle bookings, and ferry bookings.Assist with outreach and communication efforts, such as preparing posters and disseminating accurate information under guidance.Support outreach to individuals who use drugs/alcohol and their families, accompanying MWSU staff in various settings.Utilize databases for accurate client progress tracking and confidential record keeping (if requested).Assist with budget implementation, volunteer and staff scheduling, payment requests, and preparation of informational materials and reports (if requested).Perform other administrative and professional duties related to the shíshálh Nation's operation as required.Maintain confidentiality in accordance with policy guidelines.Establish and maintain positive working relationships with professionals and colleagues, prioritizing inclusion and empowerment for those with mental health and substance use challenges.Utilize appropriate technology, tools, and methods for effective interpersonal communication.Perform all other tasks within the scope of the position. Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:Six (6) months of experience in a related field (supportive housing, health and social services, etc.) or equivalent education and experience.Frontline or lived experience supporting others with Mental Wellness and Substance Use issues is an asset.Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Communicates effectively and sensitively with clients from diverse backgrounds. Conflict resolution training or experience is preferred.Previous experience working on harm reduction initiatives.Analytical skills, sound judgement and decision-making skills are required to assess situations and determine the best possible outcomes.Proficient in the use of MS Office programs with advanced knowledge of Excel and strong database skills.Knowledge and understanding of residential schools/colonial practices and the enduring intergenerational impacts.Experience working in a First Nations government or other indigenous-led organization is preferable.Knowledge of shíshálh culture and community members is an asset.Mandatory confidentiality is a condition of employment for all staff of the Nation.
