Posting Details Job Details Description This position provides technical support to Instrumentation peers, Engineers, and Drafters. Senior Instrumentation Specialists are involved in sizing and selecting various instruments and preparing instrument lists and datasheets. This position has experience with control systems, control valve sizing, measurement instrumentation, and industry regulations and standards. Instrumentation Specialists are involved in bid reviews, design reviews, technical evaluations, and assisting field operations. Senior Instrumentation Specialists are called upon to lead projects where there are various other Instrumentation Specialists along with other disciplines involved in various degrees Duties and Responsibilities Assist with Instrument engineering and design for industrial plants and processes. Assists peers, engineers and others with instrumentation questions. Performs bid/evaluate/award process including development of Request for Quotation (RFQ) packages, bid evaluations, and Bill of Material (BOM) entry into Enterprise Resource Planning software. Independently analyze complex problems by communicating with leaders, other employees, and other disciplines. Reads and analyzes P&IDs and Line Lists for generation of instrument lists and data sheets. Possibly test, calibrate, and troubleshoot electrical equipment and Instrumentation. Read and apply specifications, installation detail drawings, and electrical drawings to the specification of instrumentation. Ensure designs and installations comply with client specifications and government standards and codes. Resolve instrument, control, and electrical technical issues. Assist instrument and control personnel during construction and commissioning. Read and understand process runs and apply to the specification of instruments. Prepares and maintains instrument lists and data sheets. Uses data sheets and associated information to specify, size and select instruments. Requests quotes from vendors. Assists Instrumentation Supervisor in refining standards. Reviews and approves vendor drawings and documents Generates Bill of Material (BOM) Tracks time to jobs Provide technical support to Instrumentation peers, Engineers, Drafters, and others. View instruments and installations in the yard or shop and advise on proper installation. Apply practical knowledge and develop broad based skills while contributing to the overall success of Propak’s operations through interaction with a cross functional team. Lead a project with providing manhour estimates and overall project timeline management. Assign and oversee the work of other Instrumentation Specialists in team. Assist with the performance evaluation of other Instrumentation Specialists in team. Prerequisites Education Diploma in Instrumentation or Electrical Engineering Technology Journeyman Red Seal certification (Instrumentation) is an asset Registered with or eligible for ASET certification Experience 5+ years previous experience in the field of instrumentation Experience in the oil and gas industry Experience with control systems, measurement instrumentation, and industry regulations Experience with Analyzer Design an Asset Proficiency in Microsoft Operating Systems, AutoCAD Drawing Viewer, Bluebeam Revu and Adobe Acrobat Reader Experience with Rockwell or DeltaV an Asset Other As a condition of employment, employees are required upon hire to sign a Drug-Free Workplace Agreement, a Conflict of Interest Agreement, and Confidentiality and Invention Agreement Required Skills and Abilities Ability to meet objectives while working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and strict deadlines Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously Excellent organizational, time management, and planning skills Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills Use of appropriate theoretical and practical engineering principles to solve technical problems Ability to interpret and utilize complex information Ability to use past engineering and/or field experience to help design instruments in various process applications Willing to think outside the box for selection of alternate instrument options Solid reading, research, and analytical skills Ability to understand complex, technical verbal and written instructions Ability to interpret and utilize complex information, computer-based designs, drawings, specialized technical manuals, and specifications Excellent visualization skills Strong detail orientation Ability to work independently and as part of a team Ability to take independent action to accomplish objectives Positive attitude Ability to create systems for checking accuracy and monitoring the quality of work Advanced mathematics and science skills Willingness to learn new skills, systems, and procedures Highly motivated to excel in a competitive environment Strong command of the English language Relationships Internal Works in a team environment Interacts professionally with all levels of staff and management Required to attend meetings and liaise with direct supervisor and co-workers Collaborates with multidisciplinary Technologists, Engineers, Designers, Trades, Managers, and other department personnel Answers inquiries and explains processes May be required to prepare internal reports External Interacts professionally with all external parties May be required to visit client site during commissioning and start-up Authority Level Decisions are routine in nature and will follow precedents and procedures Makes independent decisions within the scope of the position Manager is readily available for assistance and guidance Work Environment Specific Work Conditions Work may involve shop and field placements, often with little notice Required to work in an office setting with usual weekday office hours Overtime may be required to meet project deadlines Requires the ability to deal with a diversity of people when responding to interdepartmental inquiries Coping with frequent interruption and changing priorities Required to attend meetings at other buildings Physical Requirements Requires ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods using a computer, reading manuals, etc… Occasional ability to lift, carry, and put away file boxes weighing up to 25 lbs Occasional ability to stand for extended periods for faxing, scanning, and photocopying Manual dexterity for data input, paperwork and use of standard office equipment Climbing, kneeling, crouching, and crawling when examining equipment Must wear company-standard PPE when entering fabrication shops, yards, and project sites.
