Lead, Joiner Outfit

The Lead, Joiner Outfit is responsible for the leadership and development of the Joiner Outfit team inside the engineering Outfit department to support the ongoing projects under the matrix organization structure for new vessels constructed by Seaspan Shipyards.Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.What you'll doDevelop, staff, and line manage a team within their department and allocate the required resources to the ongoing projects under the matrix organization structure.Develop Statements of Work (SOW), Master Product Lists (MPL) and hours estimates for task proposals.Develop and maintain a discipline resourcing plan and lead on any required recruitment activities.Support the Manager/Senior Manager with Control Account Manager (CAM) duties for a discipline within their department and any subcontracted scopes, responsible for cost and schedule adherence across all programs.Develop and implement governance processes that comply with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) requirements.Advance training and development plans and paths for engineers within the discipline as well as actively address performance issues within the teams.Develop, implement, and improve engineering design standards that best support efficient design and build practices.Drive teams to develop required functional engineering plans and processes which support the execution of project work across a value stream.Provide technical and execution support to the Project Engineering Manager or Project Chief Engineer as required. Provide engineering and design expertise in assigned areas of Marine Outfitting Systems including such elements and components as; joiner interior accommodation design, fire protection systems, insulation systems, structural openings (doors, windows, manholes, hatches), stairs & ladders, handrails and stanchions, paint, gratings, and lifesaving equipment, davits etc.What you'll bringBachelor's degree in a relevant Engineering or Naval Architecture discipline. Master’s degree desirable.Professional Engineer or Incorporated Engineer designation with a recognized, accredited institution.5+ years of design management and leadership experience in a shipyard or marine design firm.10+ years of design experience in the shipbuilding industry.Experience of supplier technical management.Experience of Earned Value Management.Experience in production, production engineering and/or project management desirable.Management skills and ability to lead a large and diverse technical team.In-depth understanding of the shipbuilding design process.Technical, analytical and change management skills.Negotiating and communication skills; both written and verbal.Initiative, creativity, and integrity.Proficient computer skills including Word/Excel/PowerPoint.Ability to multi-task, prioritize and solve problems.Ability to work with limited direction.Sound judgment and decision-making skills.Why you'll love working hereThis is a full-time, permanent position. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity.
