About the roleWe’re looking for an Underwriter I, Commercial Lines, to join our team for a 12-month temporary/secondment This role is a full-time hybrid position that requires a minimum of two (2) days per week working in our 700 University Ave, Toronto, ON office.What you'll do here:Participate In broker visits, Insurance Industry functions and marketing events in support of broker relationship development.Use negotiating skills to maintain healthy relationships within and outside the company.Make recommendations to improve the department processes and increase efficiency.Analyze requests for quotes and recommend innovative solutionsFocus on building relationships while underwriting and rating policiesProvides technical advice, recommendations, and mentoring to team membersAssess, evaluate and negotiate on moderate to complex risks.What you bring to the table:Minimum 1 year of experience in an underwriter or underwriter assistant capacityCandidates with prior Commercial Lines Auto experience will be prioritizedVery strong sales and customer service skillsCompletion of or progress toward a CIP designation is an assetMaintain an expert and current understanding of all relevant Commercial Underwriting Guides and instructions related theretoDemonstrate the ability to handle complex risksAwareness of local community conditions and insurance issuesStrong negotiating skills and business savvyInitiative and ability to work under pressureSound knowledge of Microsoft Office products and computer tools.What we offer Our hybrid work model provides the balance between working from home and enjoying meaningful in-person interactions.Working here means you'll be empowered to be and do your best every day.
