Position Summary The Community Host is the first point of contact for clients and community members at Mount Carmel Clinic. They work to create a welcoming, respectful and safe environment for everyone and provide information, referral and assistance as needed. The Host participates in the implementation of safety protocols and works with other staff to manage urgent and emergent situations. The Host builds relationships and trust with individuals, families, staff and the community. QualificationsEducationMinimum of Grade 12 or GED Service Delivery Skills, Expertise and ExperienceMinimum of two (2) years of related work experience in a community settingUnderstanding of/experience working with marginalized communitiesDemonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse community and client groupPhysically able to meet the bona fide job requirementsComfortable with considerable amount of standing and walkingStrong customer service and interpersonal skillsComfortable in patrolling, monitoring and responding to situations of urgency and disturbanceDocument incidents, near misses and other matters in accordance with MCC policyExperience in maintaining, ordering and distributing of harm-reduction suppliesGreet service users and visitors in a welcoming manner. Assists service users with accessibility needs when neededMonitor all vehicles parked in all MCC parking lots Critical SkillsProven knowledge and ability in relationship-building, critical thinking, decision-making, problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills Focus on ResultsDemonstrated ability to prioritize and focus work-related activities to effectively and efficiently achieve service goals and produce expected results/outcomes Alignment with Organizational ValuesCommitment to the principles that guide Mount Carmel Clinic, as reflected in the history, vision, mission and values Indigenous UnderstandingKnowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture and traditions and the impact of colonization on the health and well-being of Indigenous individuals and families Interdisciplinary Team, CollaborationProven ability to work within an interdisciplinary team environment with respect, professionalism, cooperation, sensitivity and cultural awareness MCC PhilosophiesStrong knowledge, commitment and demonstrated ability to apply diversity, equity, cultural safety, pro-choice, social determinants of health, population health, harm reduction, trauma-informed and community development principles in all aspects of the work CommunicationExcellent verbal and written communication skills and proficiency in the use of MS Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook) AssetsCurrent Certification in De-Escalating Potentially Violent Situations, Standard First Aid, Level ‘C’ CPR (with AED certification) and/or Conflict ResolutionEducation or training in community workAll positions are subject to Criminal Record, Adult and Child Abuse Registry checks.
