JOB OVERVIEW Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Senior Technical Engineer/Officer. Reporting to the Manager, Design Engineering, this position is responsible to provide electrical and instrumentation & control design engineering services and support in collaboration with internal departments, external vendors and equipment manufacturers, and regulatory organizations to ensure successful project delivery. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Providing Electrical and Instrumentation & Control design as well as providing oversight on external design service providers, preparation of technical specifications, design requirements, modification packages, and design calculations, as well as review of design reports as part of day-to-day duties. Key drawings/documents include single line and three-line diagrams, connection wiring diagrams, cable block diagrams, cables routing/instrumentation piping routing, control logics, electrical equipment layouts, various reports etc. Conduct and/or review engineering studies, assessments and investigations of general, unusual problems or developments of an electrical nature related to assigned projects.Collaborating with both OPG's internal teams and external organizations, including Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) vendors.Working with OPG's Construction Engineering and Project Management teams to support the installation planning, installation, commissioning and close out phases of the project.Providing procurement evaluations/procurement support and active participation in various cross-functional teams to address and solve complex problems. Applying Engineering Change Control (ECC) processes to prepare design packages with quality.Providing design oversight on vendors' engineering function (in all modification phases) as part of day-to-day responsibilities to ensure that all aspects of the ECC process are followed.Providing design engineering support (for both in-house and external vendors' projects) in the field of Electrical and Instrumentation & Control engineering, applying knowledge of ARC Flash Calculations, Short Circuit Analysis, ETAP (Electrical Transient Analysis Program), Relay Protection and Switchgear designs when applicable.Prepare inspection and maintenance procedures and standards for in-house designs and/or provide effective oversight on external design vendors for the same. Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests and review test reports as required. Manage successful completion of the design activities and design support for assigned multiple, short, and long duration projects from concept to commissioning and close out.Applying strong electrical and instrumentation engineering fundamentals to provide technical evaluation and advice, solve problems, and coordinate all technical work as required to support the assigned / emergent nuclear projects. QUALIFICATIONS 4 year Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical and Instrumentation & Control); advanced degrees may be an asset.Minimum of 8 to 10 years related engineering experience is required; PEng would be an assetExperience working in the Nuclear or Power Generation industry is an asset.Possess strong electrical and Instrumentation & Control engineering fundamentals and principles.Experience providing design engineering support (for both in-house and external vendors' projects) in the field of Electrical and Instrumentation & Control engineering.Knowledge of ARC Flash Calculations, Short Circuit Analysis, ETAP models, Relay Protection and Switchgear designs.Experience with nuclear plant ECC (Engineering Change Control) process would be an asset.Have excellent written and verbal communication skills and complex problem-solving skills.Candidate must be a fully licensed engineer in the province of Ontario, or be eligible to be licensed in the Province of Ontario The successful candidate will exhibit uncompromising integrity and commitment to upholding corporate values, and the OPG Code of Business Conduct.
