Key position functions include: Ensure processes and machine operations are performed in accordance with safety regulations and are carried out in a conscientious manner. Operate machines by setting up and adjusting three and four-jaw chucks (where applicable,) tools, attachments, collets, bushings, gears, stops and indicating devices. Calculate requirements, using basic math, geometry, and trigonometry for practical problems such as computing dimensions, laying out work, and setting up machine tools. Maintain specifications by monitoring the drilling, grooving, cutting, turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; adjusting controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools. Maintain machines, equipment and workstations to an acceptable Stream-Flo standard of cleanliness. Maintain an acceptable level of productivity and efficiency. Responsible to ensure product quality meets drawing specification. Provide training to new machinists and/or apprentices. Stamp machinist’s ID on all pieces, and re-stamp and/or mark heat numbers on pieces when heat numbers have been removed by machining. Identify machining non-conformances by separation and/or marking. Follow work order and process traveller requirements and fill out job sheets or record time using ERP system. Report all machine, crane and hoist problems in the proper maintenance logs and notify Maintenance Department and/or lead hand/supervisor of a down time situation. Other duties assigned by Lead Hand / Supervisor. Preferred candidates will possess a combination of the following: Minimum 10 years’ experience as a conventional lathe operator. Alberta journeyman machinist certification or equivalent with the Interprovincial Red Seal. Some conventional milling preferred. Experience with large part turning and offset boring. Crane and forklift experience preferred. High attention to detail. Self-motivated, able to prioritize and possess strong organizational skills. Ability to multitask and work in a face paced environment. Ability to work with minimum supervision.
