Date Posted: 11/27/2025Req ID:46147Faculty/Division: Temerty Faculty of MedicineDepartment: Department of Molecular GeneticsCampus: St. George (Downtown Toronto) Description:OVERVIEW: The Department of Molecular Genetics in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto invites applications for the position of Research Associate (Limited Term) to participate in research focused on the molecular mechanisms of Cell Division and the available position will follow up on recent discoveries underpinning the regulation of distinct actin networks required for successful cell division in mammalian cells (Nat Comm 2021 12:2409, J. Biol. Chem 2020 295:3134) and expand in to other cellular roles of actin. QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates require a Ph.D. and expertise in biochemistry and microscopy. At least 10 years of experience in studying the cytoskeleton and cell migration. Extensive experience in both fixed and live cell analysis, confocal microscopy, image analysis and the application of application of microfluidics. A strong background in cytoskeleton biology is required and the application biochemical techniques (in particular protein expression and purification and in vitro binding assays) to study cytoskeletal dynamics especially during EMT will be an asset. Candidates must have experience preparing manuscripts for submission to peer reviewed publications/journals and in presenting findings at meetings and conferences. Candidates must also have experience designing, planning, and executing experiments and research. Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills are required, and a proven ability to work positively with others in a collaborative laboratory environment is an asset. KEY DUTIES Establishment, growth and propagation of mammalian tissue culture cells. Analysis of the cytoskeleton by fixed cell fluorescent microscopy, confocal and high-resolution microscopy. Live cell imaging of cell and cytoskeletal dynamics coupled with quantitative computational image analysis. Molecular Biology strategies to generate recombinant protein and mutant mammalian cell lines. Protein purification using affinity chromatography and analysis of protein-protein interactions using standard binding assays and BLI. Designing, planning, and executing research projects. Reading published papers relevant to the experiments being performed and adapting procedures accordingly. Liaising with collaborators and assisting in the compilation, analysis, and reporting of research findings to researchers within and outside of the program. Preparing manuscripts for submission to peer reviewed publications/journals. Presenting findings at local, national, and international conferences. Assisting with general laboratory biosafety and maintenance, including inventories, equipment repair, ordering, and shipping reagents. Coordinating efforts with a dynamic and productive team with diverse expertise. Beyond these responsibilities, the individual will be expected to participate in the preparation of grant applications and in the supervision of technical support personnel and research trainees. At all times, the individual will be expected to support the overall research and teaching missions of the lab. Please Note: This is a two (2) year term position.
