Position Title: Maintenance Assistant Location: Langara Family YMCA (282 W 49th Ave, Vancouver)Terms: Permanent Full-TimeHours: 35 hours per weekShift: Shifts vary but will include weekdays, evenings and weekendsSalary: $42,000-$45,500 per year plus full benefits packageStart Date: As soon as possible Reports To: Manager, Building OperationsNature & ScopeThe Maintenance Assistant ensures facilities, equipment, and systems are safe, clean, and functioning properly through routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs. They work closely with contractors, suppliers, and staff to uphold high building standards, extend asset life, and maintain compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.Major Responsibilities- in this position, you will:Perform Routine Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections and carry out scheduled preventive maintenance on building systems (e.g., electrical, plumbing, HVAC, lighting)Respond to Repair Requests: Address maintenance and repair issues promptly to minimize disruptions to operations or occupant comfortMaintain Equipment and Tools: Ensure all maintenance tools and equipment are in good working condition and used safely and properlyEnsure Health & Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and building codes; report hazards or violations and take corrective action as neededMaintain Records and Documentation: Keep accurate records of repairs, maintenance schedules, and inspectionsAssist with Facility Upkeep: Perform general upkeep tasks such as painting, basic carpentry, changing light fixtures, and replacing filtersQualifications-you bring:Trade certification or 3-5 years of building maintenance experienceStandard First Aid with CPR-C (valid within 3 years)Knowledge on how to use excel and Microsoft wordCurrent satisfactory Criminal Record Check and provide 3 professional referencesAbout YMCA BC:By igniting belonging and championing health equity, YMCA BC strengthens the foundations of community.
