Position Overview The role of the Healthy Baby Coordinator is to assess, plan, promote, implement, coordinate and evaluate programming in accordance with Province of Manitoba - Healthy Baby program and Southern Health-Santé Sud vision and mission. Healthy Baby programs are intended to connect with and support pregnant women and families with babies up to the age of one, with the primary focus on those whose needs may be overlooked or underserved by mainstream health services. The emphasis is on positive parenting, parent-child relationships, improved infant health and development, healthy eating and optimal awareness and use of community resources. Healthy Baby programs are primarily designed for groups, are strength-based /family centered and follow a harm reduction philosophy. Functioning within a team, the Coordinator supports planning, development and implementation of the program for all regional sites and acts as a resource for health care professionals and community partners. The incumbent exercises the appropriate level of initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities, work methods to be employed and action to be taken on unusual matters. The position functions in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision and values; and the policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud. Experience Minimum 2 years working in a community health care setting. Minimum 1 year facilitating groups. Previous experience working with families with young children. Previous experience working in an interdisciplinary team environment. Experience using trauma-informed, strength based and harm reduction approaches. Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate) Graduate of an accredited post-secondary degree in Health or Social Sciences. Other relevant educational qualifications and experience may be considered. Certification/Licensure/Registration Active license and registration to practice as required by professional association and provincial legislation. Qualifications and Skills Knowledge of parent-child attachment theories, healthy parenting practices and basic child and development and family nutrition. Knowledge of mental health promotion strategies. Knowledge and understanding of health equity, social justice and cultural safety. Demonstrated ability to establish a trusting and positive relationship with participants. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with interdisciplinary teams. Demonstrated ability to display independent judgement, leadership skills and flexibility. Physically capable of providing service in a variety of community settings under varying weather and environmental conditions. Given the cultural diversity of our region, the ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population is required. Proficiency of both official languages is essential for target and designated bilingual positions. Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality including paper, electronic formats and other mediums. Good work and attendance record. Requires a valid Class 5 driver’s license, an all-purpose insured vehicle and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000. Physical Requirements Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job. No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions. May work occasionally evenings and weekends as necessary. Will be required to travel to other regional facilities as the position duties may require.
