POSITION: FISHERIES MANAGER HOUR OF WORK: FULL-TIME, PERMANENT (35 HRS/WEEK) REPORTS TO: BAND MANAGER WAGE RANGE: $90,000 - $110,000 ANNUAL SALARY POSITION SUMMARY: SȾÁUTW̱ First Nation (TFN) is seeing a strong team player committed to the implementation and development of TFN’s Fisheries Department. The ideal candidate will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of fisheries management, fish habitat restoration and enhancement, and work to increase community participation in fisheries related activities. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Conduct community based domestic fishing as required. Knowledge, Implementation, and management of SȾÁUTW̱’s Marine Use Law Knowledge of SȾÁUTW̱’s Indigenous Protection and Conservation Area (IPCA) Knowledge, management of SȾÁUTW̱ marine conservation, protection, and management Management of SȾÁUTW̱ Fisheries’ committees, programs, and staff Coast guard Fisheries guardians Salmon and other aquatic habitats Goldstream hatcheries Knowledge and management of fish food, social, and ceremony community distributions Knowledge of fisheries agreements and reporting requirements SSI (Salish Sea Initiative) AFS (Aboriginal Fisheries Strategy) FNFC (First Nation Fisheries Council) Others Knowledge of SȾÁUTW̱ Fisheries relationship with community stakeholders, municipal and government relationships Knowledge of community consultation process; Douglas Treaty and Aboriginal rights; UNDRIP and DRIPPA (BC) Knowledge of SȾÁUTW̱ territories, culture, language and WSANEC communities Work with other staff/volunteers and DFO staff to implement catch monitoring activities that are appropriate to meet management requirements of the species or species groups. Ensure all Fisheries activities are conducted in safe and appropriate conditions. Maintain all Fisheries related equipment in good working condition. Implement assessment activities necessary to support domestic fishing activities for SȾÁUTW̱ Salmon habitat restoration and salmon rebuilding activities in SȾÁUTW̱ Implement appropriate assessment activities to properly evaluate fisheries restoration and salmon rebuilding activities. Attend various fisheries management and technical meetings, training courses, as required or as directed by the Band Manager. Maintain confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of the SȾÁUTW̱ First Nation. Boating and navigational skills. Knowledge of water, fisheries, environmental and resource planning principles and practices. Well-organized and makes good use of systems to track tasks, schedules, etc. Strong oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of general office procedures and operation, including photocopier and computer skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Outlook. Familiarity with Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher are assets, or willingness to learn. Criminal Record Check is a condition of employment. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High School Diploma with preference to candidates with a degree in environment related field. Good reputation with the Nation. 3 to 5 years’ experience in the Fishing/Fisheries industry. Minimum of 5 years in management experience (budgets, reporting, funding, applications, oversee staff, etc.) Small Vessel Operator Proficiency Certificate. Restricted Radio Telephone Operator Certificate. Current BC Driver’s License. OTHER FACTORS Culture/Language Respect for and working knowledge of the SȾÁUTW̱ culture is required.
