Detailed Overview Reporting administratively to the Manager, Clinical Operations and clinically reporting to the Practice Leader, Psychology, the Clinical Psychologist is in charge of psychological services and responsible for the provision of a full range of psychological assessments/tests, interpretations and treatments for clients and their families within the Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) program. The Clinical Psychologist has full program development responsibility and provides consultation to referral sources regarding issues relevant to the practice of clinical psychology. The Clinical Psychologist provides psychological assessment and diagnosis, and collaborates with physicians and other care providers regarding treatment planning for clients experiencing symptoms of acute mental illness. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the Clinical Psychologist also participates in guideline development, quality assurance, program development and evaluation, clinical research and education activities. May provide care to patients through a combination of telephone, virtual video/audio conference and/or remote technology to patients in their homes, in the community including outreach, and virtually. Responsibilities Provides a full range of psychological services to clients experiencing acute signs and symptoms. Provides and conducts comprehensive psychological assessments of client functioning to identify and determine underlying disorders, levels of cognitive function and intelligence, factors contributing to functional impairment, mental competency issues and conditions under which specific behaviours occur. Contributes to the design of interventions to address or reduce mental health challenges and to reinforce client skills and abilities. Provides evidence-based psychological treatments to clients addressing a wide variety of presenting clinical issues. Evaluates the effectiveness of psychological treatments and provides new recommendations and care as appropriate. Accepts referrals from clinical team members and provides consultation to various treatment teams on assessment and treatment issues, which may involve a direct consultation with a formal assessment, co-therapy, or discussing concerns regarding a particular client; leads and coordinates multi-disciplinary service interventions; consults with community professionals and agencies on psychological issues. Maintains liaison with referring physicians and other professionals regarding clients' total care; communicates assessment data, interpretations, recommendations, and ongoing care using oral and written reports. Provides education and consultation to interdisciplinary team members and their students. Participates in the development of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines, pathways, protocols and decision support tools for psychiatric clients across the hospital and community. Assists with the analysis of data in order to make necessary adjustments to guidelines and pathways. Attends and participates in multidisciplinary conferences, medical rounds, service and department meetings. Participates in program evaluation, program planning, and program implementation. Participates in short and long term planning for Mental Health and Substance Use Services and in the establishment and auditing of quality assurance activities. Participates in clinical research. Supervises psychology student/interns as assigned. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education and Experience Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from a recognized and accredited learning institution. Five years' recent, related experience in psycho-diagnostic assessment/testing of psychological function and disorders or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Demonstrated experience working with and leading psychological interventions, consultation, and interdisciplinary team work with complex clients. Current registration with the College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia (CHCPBC). Current Class 5 Driver's license and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes, as required. Skills and Abilities Demonstrated knowledge of developmental theories, family and social dynamics, psychological assessment/testing and interpretation, psychological treatment modalities and mental disorders as defined by the most current version of the DSM or ICD. Demonstrated ability to provide effective psychological treatment to people with various mental disorders. Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to mental health certification in accordance with the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to contribute as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, including comprehensive written assessments. Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation. Demonstrated ability to implement guidelines, decision support tools and protocols. Demonstrated quality assurance, program evaluation, and research skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, teach and mentor others. Ability to plan, implement, organize and prioritize work. Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
