Senior Mechanical Engineer

Your JobDarkVision, part of Koch Engineered Solutions, is seeking a talented and experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of our state-of-the-art ultrasonic imaging technologies. This role presents an exciting opportunity to tackle unprecedented engineering problems where a first principles approach is essential for developing robust solutions. Unique design challenges arise as we integrate our custom, high-resolution sensor assembles into products that must withstand some of the harshest conditions found in industry, including pressures up to 15,000 psi and temperatures reaching 150° C. As such, this role demands someone who is highly proficient in applying mechanical engineering principles to challenging problems, and also eager to learn and adopt the innovative techniques that DarkVision has mastered over the years. The successful candidate will engage with every phase of the design process, from ideation through to scaled manufacturing handoff. Additionally, as a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will steward engineering best practices throughout the organization and help mentor junior engineers to help them realize their full potential.This is an on-site regular full-time position in our HQ in North Vancouver, BC, where employees enjoy full access to our facility amenities including a well-equipped gym, squash court, climbing wall, steam room, and moreOur TeamIf it moves, needs to survive extreme conditions, protects delicate electronics, or has specific material properties, the Mechanical Team will be involved. We’re collaborative, curious, and encourage taking big swings. We work closely with other engineering teams to produce thoughtful, innovative solutions to problems that don’t always have a clear answer.What You Will DoCarry out detailed design of mechanical parts and assemblies for use in our products, including electronics packaging, pressure vessel design, sensor carriers, dynamic structural elements, and fluid handling systemsPerform engineering calculations to assess system viability and performance of a system, including the use of numerical tools such as FEACollaborate with external contract manufacturers to source both custom and off-the-shelf componentsAssemble prototypes of new products or improvements to existing products, and support their testing, troubleshooting, and validation Determine testing requirements for new devices or components, and design custom test equipment, including for accelerated life testingCollaborate with the broader engineering teams to gather cross-functional design requirements and communicate design interdependencies and tradeoffsOccasionally travel to our field offices to support final testing and commissioning of devices prior to commercial deploymentWho You Are (Basic Qualifications)University degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or Engineering PhysicsAt least 5 years of experience as a mechanical design engineerProfessional experience in creating 3D models and assemblies using CAD software such as Inventor, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or CreoExperience designing electromechanical assemblies, such as electronics packaging and thermal management systemsExperience creating appropriately toleranced 2D drawings to outsource custom parts fabricationExperience interfacing with external vendors to procure custom partsHands-on experience with assembling and testing prototypesWhat Will Put You Ahead8+ years of experience as a mechanical design engineerExperience designing enclosures for sensitive electronics to withstand shock and vibration Experience with the design of high pressure and temperature systemsExperience designing sealing solutions for various applications, including the use of mechanical seals and gasketsUnderstands the design considerations for various manufacturing methods such as CNC machining, 3D printing, and laser/waterjet cuttingExperience with basic microcontroller programming (Arduino, etc.) to aid in rapid prototypingExperience with MATLAB, Python, or other technical programming languages for data processing and analysisGeneral Salary RangeFor this role, we anticipate paying $120,000 to $160,000 per year.
