Job DescriptionWetlab technician is responsible for performing routine sample decompositions and leaches on geological materials in accordance with client work order instructions and laboratory quality guidelines and procedures.Perform a variety of decomposition and leaching methods as per SGS’ Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). These will include acid digests and others as requiredClean labware and equipment Make basic reagents as necessaryProvides feedback to supervisors and/or group leader regarding any issues encountered during procedures. unanticipated reactions, loss of samples etcVerify and adjust calibrations on a variety of lab equipment including dispensers, pipettes, balances and other.Ensure that work order documentation is complete in every respect and QC results are entered into SLIMS as necessary.Maintain clean and organized workbench area ensuring spills are immediately cleaned; disposal is handled according to laboratory procedures including any special requirements for handling international soils.Ensure that equipment’s are maintained in good order making the supervisor or group leader aware of any damaged or defective equipment or any equipment requiring complex adjustment.Notify supervisor when consumables are nearing depletion to ensure they are reorderedKeep all records and notebooks in good order including work order and equipment maintenance logs. Adhere to assigned working hours unless otherwise approved by the SupervisorMay be asked to work in other areas of the Geochemistry laboratory sections when required.QualificationsEducation: Minimum High school diploma is required but degree or diploma (or equivalent) in Chemistry related field is preferred.Experience: 0-1 year of relevant work experience required or equivalent experience through education. Strong analytical and mechanical skillsGood hand/eye coordination when handling samples & lab equipment.Ability to perform routine bench testsA willingness to learn new analytical tests, instrumentation and procedures Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner. Candidates must demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.Ability to work well with others & independently. Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.Works well under pressure.Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.Travel to other SGS locations or client location may be required.Ensures full compliance with the company’s Health & Safety, Code of Integrity, and Professional Conduct policies.Must use good judgment to identify and resolve problems on the job. When in difficulty refer problems to his/her supervisor for resolution.Intermediate level of creativity required in solving routine problems.Proficient in using various type of computer software (Word, Excel, etc.).Ability to work well with others & independently.
