JOB SUMMARY
Environmental Health Protection and Outbreak Management is responsible for implementing Ontario's Public Health Standards with a focus on environmental health protection, infectious diseases and outbreak management, as well as relevant regulations under the Health Protection and Promotion Act (HPPA). The Environmental Health unit develops, implements and evaluates inspection services and programs, and is responsible for enforcement of relevant federal, provincial and municipal legislation and Public Health policy.
You are responsible for monitoring and enforcing the maintenance of provincially and municipally legislated standards of public health protection, environmental sanitation and occupational health and safety; for helping to prevent and control the occurrence of communicable diseases and exposure to toxic chemicals and physical agents in the environment; and for promoting optimal health in our community.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of 4 year year university degree in Environmental Health
Minimum of 3 years of related experience in the field
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES
Certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada)KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of Public Health Issues related to Environmental Health and Inspection. Knowledge of municipal/ provincial legislated standards of Public Health including food control, environmental health and communicable disease control. Skilled at inspecting, investigating and assessing food establishments, swimming pools, institutions and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation or reporting problems and recommending corrective action. Design, organize, promote and deliver educational workshops/seminars. Prepare reports, compile data and maintain records. Participate in court actions/ and or inquests or appeal hearings, serving as an expert witness and/ or Provincial Offences Officer. Undertake special projects as assigned.COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Self motivated, able to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Excellent interpersonal skills, able to relate key information and deal with the public in a professional, cordial manner. Superior problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Able to work with a variety of external clients including clients from various multi-cultural groups. Capable of handling a high-volume, multi-task workload including emergency situations.WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
